potential buyer

Im looking to buy my fiance a newer car (used). She really wants the G35x or an Acura TL. Locally, both are about the same amount for the same features and mileage. looking at an 04-05 model. \

Few questions: I am a modder, how easy is it to mod the TL for more power?

How reliable is it? Have you had many issues? do the dealerships give you hassle for warranty work?

Overall, how satisfied are you with your purchase?

and finally - if you were in my shoes and buying a relable nice car for your woman, would you go with the TL or the G35? Her priorities are as follows: 1. Reliability 2. interior 3. fun to drive 4. then looks (exterior).

Thanks for the advice. Im looking to buy before x-mas.

The following is IMHO
1. Reliability- edge goes to Acura
2. Interior- Acura definately
3. Fun to Drive- edge goes to G
4. Exterior- Acura definately

I would diffenently say the acura too but right now acura is trying to get rid of all the 06s so you might be able to get her a new one if you talk the dealer down enough.

if you could jump up to 29000 you could get her a brand new tl.

if you have 25 look for an 06 tl who wants the 07 and get it for 25-26

thanks for the replies. Throught the day ive been swinging a bit towards the acura.

Hows does it far on the snow. I was leaning towards the AWD for the snow we get (i want to keep her safe as possible), but im not sure if the TL would be just fine or not.

FWD is better than RWD in the snow IMHO.

If you ask acura guys they will say acura.

If you ask nissan guys they will say nissan.

AWD or FWD
Timing belt or Timing chain
Single cam or 4 cam
----

G35x is cheaper to find because of the new G that came out.
TLs still hold a high valve.

Both great cars. I drive a maxima with the VQ series engine. Very good to me. Even at 8 PSI Supercharger at 130k the thing pulls hard. If your looking into not so sporty nice lux sedan get the TL.

Your question on mods. both just as mod friendly both very realiable I do believe the G35 market has more parts and choices.

Very true. I posted on a Nissan board with the same exact questions. THe more info i have, the better the decision i can make. I will weed out the bias post, but getting a feel for how a comunity feels about there cars is very important to help me make the right decisions.

now if would only snow here in the next few days, i could go drive both and see how they fare, but its doubtful.

The interior of the pre '07 G35 is on reason why I didn't even give it a second thought when looking to buy a new car. That and fuel efficiency.
As for the the TL performance in the snow, there are plenty of threads on that topic.
Good luck with your decision.

I say go for the G35x ((DO NOT even LOOK into the fugly '07 G)). Yeah, the TLs interior is nicer and more techno-savvy with the best navi on the market... but the exterior of the G is more refined, and sporty (when equipped w/ a body kit) and the performance is NO comparison. I'd driven only RWD (my mom's Jag S, cousins BMW 3, brother's 04 G35) until my TL came along, that is. Dont get me wrong, I love the car... but NEVER EVER EVER go from RWD/AWD to FWD. It's a horrible downgrade that does NOT go unnoticed. I love driving my brother's car, and if he had a navi, I would trade him in a nano-second!

The TL is a good car and so is the G. The interior of a TL is far much better than the ones of the G. The G has a slight uper hand because it will have more horsepower. However,it does not realy matter for AWD and FWD, the car must have good snow tires on it for traction for those bad conditions. If you are a modder, the TL has parts for it, but not to much to the point it it overwhelming. The TL is a nice car and as previously stated, holds its value very nicley.
BTW, also seeing that you are a modder, the TL has a very good saftey record, take a look at this link:
