Thumbs up Post-researched insight on ROOF SPOILERS

So after doing extensive research (see title! ) on roof spoilers comparing different brand names with one another, I wanted to both educate newcomers with the results I found as well as have others add their opinions and educate me along the way. I also wanted to consolidate different, separate roof spoiler information threads into one big one so it will be easier for future use .

Because I was also in the market looking for roof spoilers for my own '07 TL-S in NPB, I also need your opinions in order for me to narrow down the endless amount of roof spoiler manufacturers. I am an indecisive person. You can show me all the pictures you want, but my perfectionist self will not buy anything until I get input from other people as well (hence the poll!)

Please understand that I am NOT AN EXPERT (or even knowledgeable to begin with) on roof spoilers. I am making OBSERVATIONSand inputting MY OWN OPINIONS for A LIMITED NUMBER of manufacturers that interest me and only me. Leave your haterade at home, and feel free to add to my list.

I broke down my interests into a couple of different manufacturers/sellers.

For pictures and more information, please refer to this thread and this thread.

1. ATLP V1
Pros: Cheap(er), flows well with the car (the side "hood" looks nice to me personally), fits perfectly.
Cons: It's probably harder to find nowadays, as I couldn't find it on the manufacture website, but rather only through resales.

2. ATLP V2
Pros: Fits perfectly, quality product, more unique?
Cons: I find it a little bit too "shark fin" and sticking out just a tad too fat for my taste when viewed from the side. Expensive too.

3. Sarona
Pros: Fits perfectly, quality product, very aesthetically pleasing (not too big)
Cons: Very expensive, and a little on the small side so when viewed from the side (in a NPB TL) at night it might just look like a fin antenna lol.

4. BMWOEMSHOP
I'm not exactly sure what a BMWOEMSHOP roof spoiler looks like, there seems to be a couple, so please someone confirm this for me. People all say they like these the most and they fit perfectly, but not every one that I have seen are the same, or maybe it's just my eyes? The M3 one sticks up too vertical for my liking, to be honest.

5. Ebay random ones (are they even random? See how little I know? )
Pros: Cheap, easy to find
Cons: Varied looks, fitment may be an issue, no brand name (or are they all under a single manufacturer I either missed or listed above?)

See? I'm quite nit-picky about even the smallest detail of a peripheral aesthetic accessory for my car. I'm at a point that they almost weigh the same to me, and I need your opinions and your votes to determine which one I should get (with bias from my part, of course). I repeat, this is purely subjective from my standpoint, and I am not pushing anything on anybody. Feel more than free to disagree with me with reason - thanks!

My vote goes for 4, possibly because that's the one that I have. I think it goes great with the type-s spoiler on the trunk. I really like 1 also, but it's not easy to find, and I didn't go with #3 because of the price.

i had researched for quite a while trying to decide which one i wanted to go with. i went with the BMWOEMSHOP style because IMO, it looks the cleanest. it is subtle, fits perfect, paint match, and quality/price are on point. the rest of the roof spoilers don't even compare to the styling of this one.

If I had the money for a Sarona or ATLP that would be my choice haha

But bmwoemshop would be the best choice as for looks, price, and quality.
Probably gonna be the one I'm getting.

Btw, BBCode, not HTML haha

Here's a thread with pictures from people who have purchased/installed the spoiler from bmwoemshop on ebay. It convinced me to do it. Best looking one in my opinion. I have ordered one from them and expected it to arrive soon.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me? It looks like the spoiler is shooting upward toward the sky rather than backwards like the other pictures. The other pictures look great! I'm interested in getting the same spoiler as you but this picture worries me.

yeah it has a slight flare to it, and the back part is flat. but trust me, it's subtle and not an eye sore or anything. the actual spoiler itself is very small compared to the other ones. one of my favorite mods to date.

lmao yes... the roof spoiler IS pointing up towards the sky... You can search for more pictures on it and you will see what he's talking about. It's supposed to flare and angle upwards. No idea why that 'worries' you but I guess you just aren't used to seeing it.

It's kind of like how the Type-S Decklid spoiler goes upwards except this one flares at angle and goes up. Looks good.

Haha I think the culprit is the angle of the shot. I just didn't want the roof spoiler to jut out at such an extreme angle. But now that I checked out other pictures, I'm convinced that I'm going to get one.

Does anybody have a roof spoiler on a 04-06' TL without any mods? I have a stock ABP TL (soon to have A-SPEC) with stock 17" rims. Not sure how a roof spoiler will look along with the lip rear spoiler on now.

Thanks!

Questions about installation with the BMWoemshop spoiler to those who already own one. Did you use the "silicone glue" or another method of attachment, 3M double side, or another adhesive?

I've read about people removing the tape and putting in 3M double sided specifically and using the adhesion promoter (silicone).

What I did with mine was put dabs of JB weld and spread it in the middle section on the underside between the included tape. It's solidly in place. I'd probably have to cut the spoiler into pieces to remove it. For some reason i either lost the adhesion stuff or it never came with one.

Might be an isolated incident but i ordered one from bmwoemshop recently and requested it unpainted so I could have it painted at the dealer by my friend. When i test fit it before painting it overlapped the quarter panels by about 1/2". It was too long and i had to sand down quite a bit to make it fit on the window without an overlap. Just a warning and like i said might be isolated because i ordered unpainted which i did so i could know i have a quality paint job.....other than that im very pleased with the final product

I'm really curious if this would look overkill with a Type-S lip spoiler (not talking about base or aftermarket lip spoilers). Wish I could see one in person because pictures are hard to tell sometimes.

Sure thing:

if you'd like more angles let me know.

My review: Paint match is pretty much on point. No complaints. I was surprised the pearl matched my paint really well if not perfectly. Ailsa2009 was the only one really advertising ABP painted spoilers. And just to reiterate, bmwoemshop and Ailsa2009 are the same company/entity. Except you can buy the spoiler for $10 less on Ailsa2009's seller acct. See thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/perfect-ebay-roof-spoiler-778204/ post #12.

the spoiler sits a tiny bit higher than the roof line, and isnt flush on the roof edge, which I guess is to be expected since the glass is what sits flush with the roof line. Anything on top of the glass will not sit flush and sit higher.

One thing I would have done differently though in mounting was spread the JB weld out so it wont deform the spoiler. It's not crazy noticeable, since the reflections on the spoiler are already kind of wavy, but you can feel small bumps if you run your hand across the length of the spoiler. I didnt think it'd affect the spoiler where it would create small bumps..So spread it out.

sorry just uploaded 1 more pic:

you can really see they were able to get the pearl just right...the little nuances in the shadow and reflection match up pretty well paint wise.

But here you can see since we have to bend the spoiler to form to the curvature of the roof the reflections from the environment will not be "optically" correct. It will be wavy. I dont really have to point it out, but look at the 76 logo on the roof vs. the spoiler. if you're anal enough it will bug you.

People will vote whichever roof spoiler THEY have. Since BMWoemshop's is the cheapest, the majority of people have that one. Besides, half of this topic is subjective when it comes to looks.

I blame this thread for making me need a window spoiler!

So, after reading this thread and then giving into peer pressure I purchased the BMWOEMSHOP piece. I was kind of hesitant since the only trunk spoiler I would consider is the Type-S OEM, and I am not going to pay $500 for it, so I was kind of hesitant on the window spoiler only. After it sitting on my workbench for at least a month for various reason (I'm kinda lazy sometimes) I got it on last night. Let it sit taped up and the results are awesome!

Since there is no CBP love in this thread and only one other non-modded I felt obligated to help others make up their mind that might be hesitant like I was. If anybody would like any other angles, let me know and I will do my best to post them.

First, color match is dead on! Better match than Honda could do on our bumpers.....

He is, but I don't remember which one he is selling right off the top of my head.

I've been looking through threads at different spoilers for a few weeks off and on now, not sure what one I want more!
