Possibly getting the TLS at cost.
Possibly getting the TLS at cost.
Uncle told me if i want a car let him know cause he could get the car at cost. I told him i wish i could have known this cause i bought my car already and it's been 8 months now w/7k miles on it. I bought the 06 TL w/Nav for 34,750 w/tax+license.
If i could get the Type S at cost, how much would the price be and also do you guys think if it's worth it to trade in?

There are some links on that page for the invoice price of the vehicle. Hope that helps.

My advise would be to ask your uncle what the "at cost" is if he's the one telling you that he can get one for you at that price. Then try going on KBB.com or edmonds.com and see what your used car value is. I know that you would probably lose around $8-10k if you're considering trading it in now for the TL-S.
Obviously not enough info, but....
Here is a start:
your car was $32000 (estimating based upon tax + license price listed)
now worth approx $29000 as trade in.
cost diff = $3000
New TL-S invoice is $35500
cost is approx $33725. (estimating 5% dealer holdback)
Obviously you can get more if you sell it privately.
Edmunds has private sale as $30700
These numbers were based upon an automatic in all estimates.
How much is the 6 months you have used the car worth to you?

It would be near impossible to getting 29k for an 06 trade in now. Trust me, I know from experience. I traded in my 8 month old 11k mile 06 TL/w nav back in November to get the TL-S and out of the 3 dealers I went to, the most any dealer would give for my trade was $25,500.
It is true though that you can privately sell your car for more, but for me it was too much of a hassle. I didn't want to deal with having to schedule times for them to come and test drive the car, kick the tires on the car, let them take it to their mechanic so they can inspect the car, and then negotiate for the price of the car. Just my

Sounds like you're on the right track. Getting a smoking deal on a TL-S is pretty much negated by the depreciation hit of a trade in/sale. I highly doubt you're gonna get much over $28K, even on a private sale.
Unless you got money to burn, just roll what ya got. They get better every year. You have to discipline yourself to get your "upgrades" every 4-5 years to be cost effective, otherwise, you're just throwing money away.
