Possible upgrade? 04TL Vs 08TL-S
Possible upgrade? 04TL Vs 08TL-S
Currently my TL has 50k on her. Saw a CBP 08 TL-S AT. with 11k miles. The stealership is willing to go 29.9K, and 11k for my trade. Is that anywhere near reasonable?
Thanks folks.

You can probably sell your car for a decent amount and then just walk in with a cash down payment and they would probably lower the price for the 2008.
If you have a 6sp 04 TL I would try to sell that beast for like 14k.

11K for your trade is ridiculus. Tell them you want 14K for your trade. If its in good shape they can still certify that 04. And they need to come down on the Type S. Considering the 2010 TSX V6 has very similar numbers in terms of size and performance. I'm test driving that car as soon as they get them at my dealership.
Problem with selling the manual TL is that no one really wants a manual family sedan car. Either way though with that low miles on your TL you surely can get more than 11K. Maybe your in a position to sell your TL and buy the 08 Type S without trading yours in. I would do that!! And that price seems very reasonable for the 08 with low miles.
I dont think you will get them much lower than 29.9. Most 08 type S's with low miles in my area (chicago) are going for low 30's.

So you're gonna pay almost 20k to have pretty much the same car you already have? Probably more than 20 after they add on all the hidden charges I'm sure they didn't tell you about. I wouldn't do it.
Well yes technically they are both 3rd gen TL's and even though they are overall the same body style. They really are completely different cars. I have had both and I think just about every part with the exception of a few is different in some way shape or form. I made the switch and I am sooooooo happy I did. With the type s I now enjoy every minute of driving. I say DO IT!!!!
If you like the top speed being over 150 dont trade for the S because remember the Type S has a modified RL trans and is done well before 150. Ofcourse thats if that is of any importance to you. Otherwise, do what you want.
The upside is that maybe the type-s tranny won't implode like most of the other 5AT TL trannys.

there are a LOT of used cars right now in the 30k flat range besides the type-s. that's too much money to upgrade to the same generation model even though it's a type-s.
yes, thats why anyone on this site bought their TL.....the top speed.
no way should you trade your car in for 11k. It's got relatively low mileage for an acura, is a 6mt with navi, aspec kit. You could get 14.5k+ on it easy if it doesn't snow in your area. But yeah I wouldn't pay 20k+ for the same gen. car but then again I don't know what your finances are how much you like th tl-s.
One of the reasons why I bought mine. I don't like electronic nannies. And yes I have pushed these cars to their limits and I'm alive to talk about it. Funny and True story about me. The two accidents I've been in in my lifetime, I was doing less than 10 mph in both of them. See you at the finish line.
+1 there
I cant imagine shelling out 10+k for the same body style with minimal improvements and down grading to an AT (unless you want one). I would just put a few thousand into what you have and call it a day. Youll spend that on taxes alone just trading up.

I bought my Type S in automatic because its a daily driver car normal car. Now my Corvette is 6spd without a doubt.

^ I say that under the assumption that you're looking for performance, since your contemplating trading in a perfectly good sedan for a slightly enhanced version.
But then again, maybe you're just looking for that cushy feeling the Type S seat gives you when the RPM's flare up....
Either way, just make sure your money is buying something that you won't regret..
He didn't ask advice on what to do. I whould hope he can make up his own mind on what he wants. He asked for advice on the price.
The price is too high. Is it certified preowned? If it is, I don't see the price going down much more than that. I'd say 28 if it is certified. If it is not at an Acura dealer, which was my case, then you should be able to get it to 26.

Actually the car is on a used GM lot

So CPO is out of the question. And I must agree with the rest of you that 29.9 is ALOT for gaining, in all reality, very little.
Think I will just stick with my current ride and do what I want with it, without a hefty car payment to worry about. Thanks guys!

Where do you guys come up with these prices? How do you know it "should" go for 26? There is a 13,000 mile 08 Type S at a local dealer they are asking $34K!! Yes 34K! I know thats obsurd and almost the price you can get them for new but I have never seen a low mile 08 go for anywhere near what you are saying. That 08 WILL sell for that asking price whether its today or 3 weeks from now. There is no way the dealership will let it go for that low.
Take a look at this link these are a couple of local Type S's to me in the Chicago burbs. Now a 30,000 mile 07 sure that I can see going for what you mentioned but come on, not an a basically like new 08.

Most of the used Type-S prices I've seen are $30k-$33k. Pretty ridicilous considering they were selling them for $32-$33k brand new just a year ago.
If I were the OP, I would offer them $27k and then go from there, if your seriously considering it. I bought my Type S with 3 miles on it for $32.5 6 months ago so I certainly think you can do better. Personally, If I was looking to upgrade or for a new car I wouldn't go into the same model although the Type S has a unique feel from the base.
If this is the car you want, find a better deal with the same car/specs and show them your find. With the economy they wont have the choice to equal your deal!
Thats what I did 2 years ago when I bought my 04, and the economy wasnt even strugging!
goog luck!

This is not a great post. You can disagree with me all you want. And to the other guy that mentioned the Type S being a Luxary Sedan. I worked for Acura for years. Did you? Do you? I hardly think that luxary was priority #1 in the type S. Infact I had that discussion with the Local area Acura Representive. That car has sports and speed in its blood. Why in the world should the automatic have a top speed limiter. If I'm going to spend 40K for a car with principle and interest I'm not going to have a computer tell me you can't go any more. Sorry thats not acceptable to me. Not now or ever. Also my 04 5 speed auto was manufactured in January of 2004. I've done some mods to my car, and have thrown everything I could think of at it and my transmission still shifts fine. The whole time I worked in the service department at the Acura dealership I only saw 3 3rd gen TL's in for for trans replacement, NOT due to to slippage, but rather a whiny customer complaining that their trans was shifting too hard. By the way, my lower control arm bushings are fine as well, and they are origional . Just a friendly FYI for those of you that posted in that other thread. Have a nice day.

LOL again!!!!
If you think ANYONE bought there TL becuase of its top speed you are absolutely a special little person.
So let me get this right, you bought an 04 5at over a UA7 5at because its top speed is not limited? How much faster do you think you can go? I would bet you couldnt break 155mph. So youre saying a UA7 5at is limited to 150 (not sure about this number personally) and that you should buy a UA6 5at because it can go 5mph faster? Even if the car isnt electronically limited, wind resistance at that speed and lack of power will keep you from going much faster.
When and how often does anyone take their car up to 150 or 155mph?? And you bought a Honda to do so??? Sounds like you bought the wrong car my friend.
