Possible group buy for 2007 parts?
Hello all,
seems like there are some demands for 2007 TL parts from 2004-2006 TL owners, including me.
I like to get the new side signal mirrors...
I have no connection to any dealership / parts shops at all, but seems like some of our forum member has... just want to start this thread and see if we can start something

My co-worker who drives a IS350 laughed at my keys. He said for a 35K car they should do something about it. Other then the keys he had no problems.
I want the flip keys, exhaust and maybe rear bumper .

reality check... have any of you considered the prices of this stuff?
Guys, you do realize how much your talking about here?
Based off 2006 parts pricing (which means I'd expect the cost to be more for the newer 2007 parts).
- New bumpers: $500 front/rear.
- Lower Grilles with Fogs: No idea. I'd expect over $200
- New headlights: $800 a set (assuming you don't have to buy new Bi-Xenon HID components. Double that if you can't mate the older style to the new style
- Rear taillights: $400 just for the housings (assuming you don;t need the LED bases) Double that if you need new LED bases.
- Smoked rear running lights: $150 a set
- HFL... $400
- Navi DVD drive (brain): $1800
- XM tuner??? Isn't the traffic updates provided via XM broadcast. 99% sure you'll need a new XM tuner to integrate in with the Nav to get Nav-traffic.
- Rear camera??? No idea expect $400 (RL pricing).
- CD changer that supports MP3. $1000
- Wiring harness???
Not only that, you probably have to buy ALL of these together, since they all integrated with each other. I'm not sure, but since the HFL is integrated with the Nav amd is a newer version... Get my drift. Thank god the screen is probably th eonly component retained.
Keys... Not sure what makes you think you can just buy these keys and they'll work. At a minimum (assuming the ignition will drop in), you have to buy the Keys, ignition, and new locks (door and glovebox) for the new keys. You probably will need a new module as well that control the "one touch start".
- Keys: $400
- Tumbler kit: $270
- Ignition/One touch start module and wiring???
- Gauge cluster: $550
- Steering wheel/airbag and components: Over $900
- SEATS: Assuming you can just use the exiting frames and foam (probably not the case): $700 fronts, $900 rears
- Exhaust - $600
- Side Mirrors $400
None of this pricing is official, but based off 2006 standard TL parts. TL-S parts, being unique to the TL-S will probably be even more expensive than standard TL parts.
My quick math indicates that all the easy bolt on upgrades are upwards of $5000, based on extremely conservative pricing...
If you guys are seriously looking at doing all this, go trade in your car.
Certainly makes the extra cost of the TL-S viable when you look at it this way eh?

But I'm not planning on doing all that shit to use the laser cut key. I plan on putting the standard key in the lasercut's place. Allowing life to go on as normal, just changing the fob. I did this with the Accord remote already, so if the codes are similar I'm sure we will be able to do this no problem.
Take it as you want it, but I like a good looking key and fob, I'm okay with the fact you like your key or have no problem with it. But I on the other hand despise the seperate key and fob. The Accord key mod was to settle me over until a true TL all in one was availiable.

^^^ That's what I came up with when I looked at the price of the tail lights and rear side markers. But, keep in mind, that's the list price...you can usually find a dealer that will sell them for less...plus, this thread is about a group buy, which would, in theory, lower the price some more. Is any of it going to be cheap? No. But, if a group buy was instituted, some of those prices might become more palatable.
Plus, everyone is posting what they would like, not what they would actually purchase. The number of people who will upgrade their NAVI is a lot less than who want to. The most realistic items are the side markers, tail lights, bumpers, fog lights, headlights, side mirrors, and few other minor items...in other words the cheap stuff. People will do this, group buy or not...if people will drop $4k on rims, $5k on a SC, $1k on an exhaust, etc., they'll surely drop $400 on tail lights.

I have a dumb question about the keys.... I wonder if it's possible to have the 2007 blank key but just cut the key to match my current 06 key... I do not care about "one touch start" I just like the look of the flip key....
I guess then remote button will need to be reprogrammed to match my key fob, but I saw some one on this forum did the key / remote conversion from a honda key... so that might work? I am just guessing....

Yeah, I would think the key thing is possible since quite a few people were able to adapt their keys to the Accord key. Probably just a matter of swapping the chip inside the key and then swapping the blade or having the blank's blade cut to your key.

Not true. The prices I'm listing are the deep discounted prices from Delray Acura's website... and thier prices are always cheaper that hondacuraworlds, but you have to pay shipping so it al balances out. Tim has told me in the passed that GB's on OEM parts is very difficult, becasue his margin is so little... but on accessories it's a little better.
edit, my pricing is high for the tails. They'd be $200 for the housings and $200 for the LED bases (if you need them). The side markers would be $100.
That's actually reasonable.
Also to mention again, these are 2006 prices. I've found specialty run parts that are unique to one vehicle to be even more expensive. Here's an example. The 2006 fuel door release lever is $12 in tan and grey. It's $34 in black. I called and asked why. It seems the tan and grey are shared through out the honda accord line. The black is unique to the TL, and thus the economy of scale is diminished, thus increasing the price.
What does all that mean? Many of the parts folks are wanting are unique to the TL-S alone (not even shared across the TL platform), and thus the cost will be exhorbitantly higher because of the limited demand.
Good luck with all these upgrades guys... I'm trying to decide to trade or just hold out for 2009.
Lembowski... Nevr did I indicate my satisfaction with the fob... but my dissastisfaction is not at teh $500+ "retrofit time" level. Sure anthing is possible with a dremel and determination. Good luck with that. You'll probably need a new fob controller as well... odds are they changed to a new frequency range withg the new fobs.

Not extremely easy
You would have to fit a standard cut key where they have the laser cut positioned. This requires plenty of metal grinding on the standard key's neck. There is no way possible to cut a laser key to a standard ignition.....I've tried, and it almost messed up home depots machine.
This is all assuming that they didn't change the frequency the remote operates on

Kennedy - yeah, just went an double checked those prices a minute ago...still, $150 for side marker covers isn't bad, and neither is $400 for tail light covers (both give or take a few bucks). Hell, even if it's $800, the exhuast is still cheaper than CT.
One thing that I'm sure many people who do upgrade a few parts will consider is how much they owe and how much they'll lose if they trade versus spending a few bucks to have the few items they want. Plus, they will be able to sell those items when they trade their car; the demand is obviously there. And I doubt it will fade...people with 2G's still will buy 02-03 tail lights for their 99-01.
Anyway, like I said, it's not cheap (depending on how flush you are), but if people will piss away thousands on aftermarket cosmetic mods and performance mods with minimal gains, they'll spend thousands on TL-S parts.
As for you, don't trade. Think about it...you'll just trade again in 09.

I just want the mirrors and rear sidemarkers but I bet that alone is going to cost $500 by itself. (I'd have to get the mirrors painted as AM is no longer a TL color) If you plan on spending $1000s why not just get the '07?? more. Well mine is an '06 so I'm not looking to sell anytime soon but I'm looking forward to the much hyped about 2009 model.
Or watch in a few months, I bet a few aftermarket companies will begin to make knockoffs of TL-S stuff cheap, (tails, sidemarkers, spoilers, etc.) if you don't mind a little compromise on the quality.

My friends new remote for his M3 from the BMW dealer was only $325
On the physical side...
If it's like the VW fob, there's a small "set pin" that locks the key into place. It will require some serious grinding and maybe a precision hole drilled.
Then of course there's the Fob frequency issue we talked about already.
