Possible better resistors for turn signals?
I've been reading a ton of threads on here and it seems that the resistors get very hot that are inline with the turn signals.
Partsexpress has some 8ohm 100watt resistors... partsexpress.com search 019-020 link won't post correctly
I think I understand how the resistors work...
13.5 volts @ 8 ohms should be 22.78 watts... which is a little higher then the stock bulb which is 21 watts.... and since this can handle 100 watts it should dissipate the heat pretty well.
I plan on trying these in my car with the new switchbacks. But before I pull the trigger I wanted to know what people think? I'm surprised no one else has thought to go this route so... maybe my logic is flawed and they will not work.

I was thinking 1 per side... I just figured @ 8ohms it will actually draw less power then then the 6ohm ones everyone is buying and since these ones are 6-1/2" L x 1-9/16" W x 3/4" H they shouldn't get as hot... There was another thread where someone mounted them in his trunk so space wouldn't be an issue.

resistors have to get hot....thats what they are made for.... thats how they control the flow.
They get hot because of 2 reasons.....the load (ohms) isnt correct. or it is. if it isnt the correct one, the resistors blow.....if it is correct the resistors last. but regardless they shouldnt get blistering hot unless the load is there for a very long time (over 30secs). if they are getting hot just from a few pulses then theres a problem.

Made my decision... I will let everyone know my results... ended up getting 2 4ohm resistors rated for up to 100watts each.
I expect them to draw 45.6 watts for each side... stock is 42 watts (assuming 2 21watt bulbs. I'll end up drawing 7.2 watts(1.8w per bulb) more then stock when all is said and done + whatever the LED lights draw. Comparing this to the 3ohm configuration which is 60.75 watts per side or a total 75 watts(18.75w per bulb) more then the stock configuration.
Also because these resistors can handle 100watts of power they should stay relatively cool even when the blinkers are on for a couple of minutes.
Hopefully this works out...
One more question... If I want to use 1 resistor per side I need to change out all four bulbs with LEDS correct? And then is there anything else special I need to do with the wiring?

Confirmed working. The resistors I picked out do not even get hot to the touch. Blinker is working at normal speed. Don't have any pics yet... Only one side installed so far.

Finished installing both resistors in the trunk today. I have to wait for the correct front LED's to come since the Type S doesn't use 7443's in the front.
Here is a picture of the resistor, I attached to zip ties around it so I could attach other zip ties to them to mount it in the trunk without having the metal on metal:
Here is a picture of the Rear Driver side wheel well there is not too much to see. The resistor is attached behind the big metal bar with all the wiring, I used a bunch of zip ties so I didn't have to drill anything. I did the same thing on the passenger side but didn't take any pictures.
And finally here are 2 pictures of the final product, Blinking at normal speed not that you can tell...
As I said before the resistors do not even get hot. I will post pictures of the switchback's once I get the right ones.

they get super hot but for momentary use they shouldnt get hot at all maybe a few degrees but not much..... ur best bet is using zip screws (self tappers) to get it mounted.

red I wouldnt expect them to...... it momentary signal if it was constant id expect them to, as thats what a resistor does, balance the load and disperse the unneeded power into heat.... if its getting really hot then its the wrong load correction. you have to probe the lines..... I havent done the mod.... but when i clear my lights (probably next week) im going to probe the lines and check what the load is and what kind of resistance is actually needed to balance the LEDs without that much heat, but if u say that works ill try it.I cant mount it in the same location as you because I fiberglassed my whole trunk so Id have to take a part a lot of things to mount in it there. Il just do it somewhere else

how did you splice this into the existing line? it doesn't look like it has those self-splice clips.

I was under the impression you had to install one at every corner if you wanted to run leds in all 4 corners.

As long as you have a big enough resistor (100 watts) that will work both lights per side. 50 watts will run both lights per side but 100 is better. I ran 2 50 watt (100 watt total) on my car and it doesn't get hot. Redhot great write up and good job on the install

Quick question.
Any concern about putting these large resistors on the back, doubling the load on the rear wiring? Given these resistors simulate the load applied by both bulbs... Noones afraid the wiring may overheat?

i got the resistors from partsexpress for 4ohm 100w...
but, now i dont know which wire to tap it too... did you solder to the wires?

haha hey did you cut off the ring on the resistor and tap it? or.. did you cut the wire and put the wire into the ring and tapped it?

If you tap wires using a wire tap, one wire (the main wire within the car will feed through both sides of the tap, the second wire (the one feeding the resistor) will be in the second slot that has only one opening.
Cut off the ring on the resistor.
I just ordered these resistors, they only had three in stock when i placed the order!! So some of ya'll may wanna wait a lil bit before you order.

ay so make things easy... cut off the rings on the resistor ( both wires ) and tap it to one black and one red wires... right? That's how i understand this electrical deals. correct me if i am wrong!! please so i wont mess up tonight ^^

Had to revive this to get some help...
I plan on installing 2 30 LED switchbacks for the front turn signals only. I bought 6 ohm resistors, but I want to install them in the rear, just because it's easier to access. Can anyone tell me if there would be any issues with this? Would it work properly?
