Check it out and report back to me. I can't imagine how you wouldn't love it. I have two copies that I loan out to friends and not one complaint on this recommendation yet. Who knows you might even pick yourself up a GS.

i doubt that the auto tl can hit 60 faster than the MT, just because the auto is a dog off the line....even in L with power braking, with the TCS OFF, it doesn't really pull as hard as th MT....but once it gets moving...theres no stopping it...she just pulls gear after gear...all the way up to 155...where i hit the speed govenor at....4th gear AT,

4 tenths of a second is ALOT, but at a roll, the AT seems to dominate....i just got home from a night at the bar....had the TCS off....rolled up to a stop sign...and punched it....boy did those tires scream....all through first....and they broke loose at teh top of second....i still love my Auto....

I ride a 1985 Honda 500 Interceptor, it's alot of fun to ride still at 22 years old (my first and only bike). What's amusing is how many cars today can actually beat it in a 1/4 (Ferrari 599, Z06 Corvette, M5). When I bought it I thought it's tested 1/4 was pretty good (~12.4 @ 107). BUt as you say I can also probably take 99% of the cars on the road). In terms of the curret bikes out there it's hard to say where my 500 stands.
Most of the current 600 Sportbikes do mid 10 sec @ 120MPH+ 1/4, that's what the liter bikes did 2 decades ago. The current class of literbikes are faster than many race cars at very low 10 sec @ 130-140 1/4's, and they weight about the same as my 430lb wet weight of my Interceptor. I wish the car manufacturers could reduce the weight as much as the bike manufacturers. The tech in current sportbikes is mind boggling.

How many MT owners are out smoking their tires and ragging out their TL to make absolutely sure they can "stick" that take off consistently. I would imagine it isn't the majority. I mention how fast my bike "can" go and I have actually been riding since I was 4 years old (32 years now) and I'm pretty sure I can't make the bike do 60 in 3.6. I leave that for the professionals at the track. (I am sure that I can hit 60 in the 4 second range however which is quick enough to shake 99% of all cars out there and likely more than 70% of all other moterbikes).

Road and Track recently had a short technical Q&A about automatic versus manual transmission acceleration. In their testing in 5+ decades of testing hundreds of vehicles they indicated they have only had a handful which were faster in auto versus manual for the same vehicle with the same engine. The most recent case for a auto being faster was the latest gen 911 Turbo which was quicker for 0-60 and 1/4 mile.
In terms of repeatability you're correct, a auto will produce fairly consistent times but will be generally slower than a manual due to higher driveline losses and some other factors.

Stats are stats bro...but in they're testings did they do the TL? not trying to be a dick head about anything....but we did take 2 identical stock TL's AT vs MT with several runs and found the AT to catch up by the middle of third gear, MT's are just fun to drive, you have more control entering and exiting turns using engine braking, and clutch dumping...dont get me wrong....i love MT's, but for me...AT is fine to just cruise around the town with the windows down system up driving 25mph and let everyone see you....ahhahaha

If you miss, it'll bounce off the rev limiter. With the 6MT, I think you'd have to shift twice from 60-115 right? 3rd and 4th?
The extra gear in the MT gives it a mechanical advantage all through the run allowing the engine to rev quicker. The extra shift is more then offset by this advantage.
The 6th speed also have full mechanical advantage into 4th gear while the AT is already in overdrive in 4th.

I have never seen a 5AT do well at the strip. they are consistantly 1/2 second slower in the quater mile. At a 100mph typical terminal speed in a good car a 1/2 second is about a 80 foot lead.

Both!
I'm not gonna vote, cause I like them both. I've owned an "05 TL 6MT, and I traded for an "07 TL-S 5A/T
Positive for 6MT:
Better weight transfer, lighter weight, strong performance, better gas mileage,
Negative for the 6MT:
Notchy 3rd gear in mine, torque steer. Arthritis in left knee in my application, resale value, the mere POSSIBILITY of an improper downshift overreving the engine.
Positive for the 5AT:
No more arthritis pain, more relaxed driving overall, controlled torque steer, better for traffic, wifey can drive it. Paddle shifters are pretty cool.
Negative for the 5AT:
Let's hope Acura has built a long lasting transmission (looks good for the TL-S on paper) Could be positive OR negative. Heavier weight, less aggressive weight transfer, slightly less gas mileage.
It's all good

MT all the way
I traded in a 2003 TL-S for the 3rd gen MT, just for the tranny change. Oh and I had to have the Brembos. MT is way more fun. Even if it was slower (It ain't), I'd still have gone with the MT. By the way, my S.O. can't drive it either. Too bad

Voted MT, and just picked up a slightly used 2007 TL-S KBP 6MT. I'm lovin life right now! Like someone else posted earlier, if the TL didn't come in a stick, I wouldn't be driving a TL. Sux, 'cause the wife absolutely refuses to learn how to drive an MT (I guess some people might think that's a good thing!)
Interesting how this thread shows more MT's, but out in the real world they're quite scarce. What is it, like 1 out of every 10 cars is a stick?

My first car was a manual, its fun and love the fact that I can control my speed a lot better, and being in control. After a while it gets annoying, plus after my first car totaled out I got a motorcycle which I rode as my main source of transportation. Now, when I hop into a car I like to just cruise and relax.
