Plug on front bumper

Under the right head light, on the bumper, there is a plug about the size of a fifty cent piece. Does anyone know why it is there and if it serves a purpose?

It is the cap that covers the threaded receptacle for the towing eye which is in your trunk, not under your owner's manual which is in the glove compartment.
