Exclamation PLEASE contact Navteq

Last night my friend fainted in my car and I had to get her to the hospital. Anyway, i selected the nearest hospital from the navi list choices. Anway, when i reached the destination, there was no hospital, just forest. I had to resort to calling one of my best friend and have him give me directions to a hospital near by from where I was. I reached the hospital and when I got there, I was very muych relived to hear that she was going to be okay. But a shocker i got was that if i brought her 5 minuted later, she would have died in my TL on the way there. I urge you to call Navteq for the sake of you kids, you husband, your wife, your friends, anyone that you love or care about because one day, you might have to rely on the nav to get you to the hospital and behold, it may not be there.

For those who are asking why didn't you call 911, I did, and what they said was that first, they didn't have as accurate location on me after i gave them an intersection, the location of a few shops next to me and the phone number of one of the shops. As well, they said that it would take atleast 10 minutes to get there. My friend was unconsious at this point and barely breathing. That is when i called my friend, and drove almost 95MPH in local residence where the limit was 25.

Also I was in the rental that i have that had a 3.60 Navi disk, which by apline, is the latest. So Please contact them so we can have more of an effect on them.

For those wondering about my friend, she is okay now resting at home. She was discharged at 3 AM today from florida hospital near Ustis.

I understand your haste with getting someone to the hospital in a hurry...I have had to take friends to the hospital with broken bones, etc., but going 95MPH in a 25 zone is a sure way to get you both killed before you even get her to the hospital...

thanks for the heads up but doing 95 in a 25 zone is endangering a whole lot more people than your friend. my intent for stating the above is not to be harsh.

she was barley breathing and she just had surgery a few months back. I was sorta freakin out because i dind't want her to die. but there were very few cars and empty stectches where i could go that fast without endangering people. I really didn't care about the law at that time because i was worrying about her. But I have not gotten a ticket since i started driving, and that is a pretty long time.

Iknow i know that i was speeding and endanging lives. BUt my navi was of wqual share, it ead me through 3 one way roads and it told me to got the other way on them to reach this so called hospital. Out of desperation, i went down them and didn't find anything. I feel really bad that i went 95 in some 25 areas, but I had to. The hospital that was enatrby was like 20 miles away, and just as a reminder, 5 minutes later and then there would have been a dead body in my car, a broken up family and a bucnch of pissed off people saying, why didn't you drive faster!!!!!! I know what i did was wrong, but you may find what i may say next stupid, i speeded sensably and slowed down when i neared other cars. I ran about 3-4 lights, and no one was in either direction (city lights illuminated the roads so people with lights off could be seen). Thanks for the input so far guys, put can you please contact NAvteqa so you guys and I won't ever have to go 95 in a 25 zone to find a non-existant hospital
My spelling may be of a bit since i have only had 3 hours of sleep in 48 hours.

How fast he was going is not the point of this thread...and it is irrelevant. Why do the people here always focus on things like that? Your comments aren't going to change what people have done and they're not going to change what they do in the future...get off the soapbox.

The reason this thread was started is a serious one, and the original poster makes a valid point. I can understand a new subdivision not being in the nav system, but a hospital not only should be, but it should be in the correct place...they don't move frequently, afterall.

csmeance, I'm glad your friend's alright. Please ignore these people who can't seem to focus on what's important here.

Thank yo chill dog, but these peoplel had vaild points as well. But the main on eis the one aobut the NAV system that was wrong. This is why i posted in the first place, to have help in getting navteqto do something and also to make peopleaware about this issue.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR NAVI SYSTEM TO MAKE SURE THAT THE LOCATIONS, NUMBERS AND OTHER THINGS ARE CORRECT IN RELATION TO NEARBY HOSPITALS, POLICE STATIONS AND FIREHOUSES

THANK YOU!! I respect other people's opinions but its almost like we are talking to a crowd of pretending non-sinners on this forum sometimes. Not one of you that commented above would've done anything differently, including myself. Desperate times called for drastic measures, get over it.

I'm glad she was safe bro, I know the nav sometimes is out of date with POI's sometimes and what I do usually is get the phone number of the place and call before proceeding just to double check for address changes. This just reinforces that I have to do it all the time, it takes an extra minute or two but defenitely beats driving there and finding yourself into a forest.

I dont know how successful the call to navteq is going to be. That's why I say that.

I sent them a message a few hours back and am now paciently waiting a reply. Anyway, i hope that navteq does soemthing about this because if they don't, I plan to take it up with them because this is a serious flaw that can endanger the lives of people that have no other option besides the nav in their car.

Sorry to hear about your incident csmeance. I'm glad everything worked out for the better.

I understand your issue with NavTeq. I've recently had something similar happen but it was not life threatening. I printed out instructions from Google Maps to a well established restaurant for co-workers to attend a Happy Hour event. Unfortunately, the instructions were incorrect and a few people were not able to attend.

There's many other software that depend on the NavTeq database so this is not specific to our TLs. I have contacted NavTeq about it, but I'm still getting the repercussions of disgruntled co-workers.

Sorry to hear about your friend, but lots of people complain here about something not bing in the nav DVD, yet never bother to inform navteq of the inaccuracy.

Red face Expectations of Perfection

Gee, with 7 million Points of Interest (including hospitals) and detailed street information on every major metro area in the US and Canada, you would think the thing would be without flaw?

Unreasonable expectation.

I'm amazed they created it to begin with. I often wonder how they input the data. Do they actually drive every road? Satellite? Maps? How do they know I should "make a slight left" if they haven't been there?

I am still using the DVD that came with my 2004 and there are times and places where it acts strange. About 3 or 4 that I have noticed. And there are a few outdated restaurant locations because new restaurants don't have a good record of success.

Have you ever read the disclaimer on the nag screen? It says something to the effect of "We try hard to get the best information but we are not perfect. Do NOT count on this database as being without error."

I have sent in a few corrections to their website. They were very appreciative. I think they are getting better all the time but I doubt we will ever see the day when they are perfect. Things change too often. POIs come and go.

If I wanted to contact Navtech to complain about your particular situation, I couldn't because you haven't given us enough information to be able to describe the specific problem you had.

And I am not inclined to call them just to say "You suck!"

That said, I am happy to hear that your friend is alright. I can understand your being upset.

Guys, in situations like this, you wouldn't even be thinking how fast you are driving until after you've reached the hospital. So give him a break. Even if a cop tried to stop him, he might probably keep going. I know I would if someone's life is in danger.

I did contact them and they said they were very soffy for the inaccurate info. They said that this would be resolved immediatly due to this incident in the next version that is released. What i want you guys to do is to check the navi to make sure the locitons of the hospitals around you are accurate, so in the even of an emergency, yoou can get their safely. If the info is innacurate, please contact them with the accurate data.

I can understand that out of 7 million points that alot can be wrong, but what i am saying is that navteq should take more on an innitavie to get the accurate info of hospitals and police satations every year without us having to tell them. This can ensure us that even in an unfarmiliar area where there are no cars with navs, that we can find a hospital in time. I was lucky that I got directions from a friend, but other may not be. I did not call them to tell them that they "suck" but told them this is a very serious flaw that can endanger lives. Last time I called They said that would send it to uper managment due to a few messages they got via phone, update tools and question fillers. The line about "you suck gave me a slight laugh.
