Plea to AZ Moderators: summarize the Racing ATF thread and put in garage
Mods,
Just wanted to get a request to you guys. I think it would be very beneficial to this site if someone could edit Post #1 of the Racing ATF thread with a nice summary of some of the key findings and then put it in the garage.
I have seen this sentiment too many times on this site . . .
. . . and I can sympathize. Folks start to read, are interested, but it is just so long a thread with so much repetitive dialogue that it becomes extremely time consuming to pick out the good and important info.

Basically, here is my quick summary of the thread:
Okay, I very quickly dug up a few of what I believe are important posts. I'm sure I'm missing a couple good nuggets.
Viscosities:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...&postcount=570
Conversation with Redline pointing out that Type-F may not be good in modern cars with a torque converter, but if no shudder then it should not be an issue. The torque converter shudder is the concern:

Mixing fluids and other info:

- In Feb. 2010, Inacurrate, a member of this forum, posed the question asking what the effect of using a fluid with less friction modifier might be on the 3G TL.
- Friction modifier is an additive in most OEM transmission fluids nowadays.
- The Honda/Acura Z1 ATF has a lot of FM. Apparently it is way too much FM.
- In fact, late in 2010, Acura/Honda released a replacement fluid and recommended it for all vehicles and discontinued the Z1 fluid.
- FM allows for softer, less noticeable shifts at the expense of excess transmission clutch wear.
- Members on this forum have tried several alternative fluids including Type-F fluids from Redline and Amsoil with positive results.
- From Redline, they produce three fluids that are appropriate for the 3G TL
1) D4 - This is designed to be an equivalent alternative to Z1. It still has FM, but it appears to be less FM than the Honda-Z1 ATF.
2) Racing Type F - This has no FM at all. It is also a thicker viscosity that the OEM Z1 fluid.
3) Lightweight Racing - This has no FM at all and is a thinner viscosity than the OEM Z1 fluid. - It is okay to mix fluids. Many members have mixed the Redline fluids and many members mix Redline Racing with Lightweight Racing at a ratio of 2:1 to bring it closer to the OEM viscosity. This is not necessary and there are members who have run straight Racing and others who have run straight Lightweight with no issues.
- FAQ: Does using Redline Type-F Racing fluid cause any issues? This is asked many times in the thread. There are many reports of members who have put tens of thousands of miles on their cars with the Redline fluid, so it is unlikely that it is harmful. In addition, many members notice much less clutch material on the magnetic drain bolt.

I'll help out with the facts. Inaccurate and several others are much better at write ups than myself but I'll give it a shot if it helps.
The problem is the quote in the first post of this thread. That guy was pissed because I finally put my foot down and wouldn't answer the same question that had literally been asked and answered over 40 times in that thread (count 'em). People don't feel like reading the thread but they expect myself and a few others to answer the same question over and over every day and get pissed when we've had enough. It's so bad that I've left my PMs full for a month because it fills up with that question also. Ironically, that's how the thread got so bloated in the first place. You could delete half the posts in that thread and not lose a bit of valuable info. I've probably spent a few hours of my time answering the same question because people can't spend 10 minutes of their time to read.
I enjoy helping people and answering questions and discussing the racing atf and the switches. I pretty much never get tired of answering questions but this was crazy. "which atf should I use and how many quarts of lightweight and racing should I use", when the answers were sometimes on the same page they posted the question on. It's not just me, I've noticed pretty much all of the key players stopped posted a while ago. Hopefully this writeup will be the solution.

I wanna change my ATF I already ordered a case of Redling Racing Type F, can anyone show me how to change it? should I do 1x3 at a time or 3x3 in one day? can I also mix it with D4? oh oh.. and do you recommend Amsoil over Red line?
Thanks in advance!!!

I'm going to start on this today but I'm going to be very busy until Thursday. There was a death in the gf's family and since he was very well known in the community, the amount of work and organization is crazy. Planning for over 1,000 people at the funeral and there's the Rosary and a couple viewings also. Anyway, I don't want to get off topic, but I don't want anyone to think I'm lazy.

This is great
Like trying to plug a leak in a dam. Plug-up this leak and another leak sprouts up elsewhere.
The only solutions is to implement a new Ban policy - Anyone that mentions ATF gets an automatic two-week ban.
This sorta reminds me of the movie "Men in Black" where they use the neuralyzer to blank-out all memory of the event from the person's mind. Does AZ have a neuralyzer ?
Racing ATF?? What's that
Change your own atf ??? No. Let the dealership do that using geniune Z1

It was a quick and sloppy 10-minute job. Hopefully, someone else can build off of it and create a more complete write up. I didn't really mention all the discussion about how Z1 fluid along with the switches is causing so much wear on our transmissions, that we suspect it is causing a good number of premature transmission failures.

Regarding the above joke post
The funny (and sad at the same time) part of this is that in the Racing ATF thread (and many other atf threads), I could swear "those people" were joking with thier constant repeative questions.......
"You have got to be kidding me with that question"
But the sad truth was.... they were seriously asking.
So we are a bit "gun shy" when it comes to people joking about atf question....... most atf question are seriously asked, but appear as jokes to the rest of us....
