Yeah call them or e-mail justn.
Fonzie@dipyourcar.com

I got you, I don't like that trim on 07-08 too.
But I think SMOKE plasti-dip would make it just like 04-06 ones.

Gunmetal might be darker. I will try it too. I took out my black blasti dip from the frame of the grill.

and listen this after 1:00
he has matte clear plasti-dip on his chrome emblem. Takes the shine out and makes it like our grill 04-06

Difference between Clear Plasti-Dip and Smoke? Not sure

Yeah, I've gotten good enough on it (especially compared to my first attempt) that I'm getting a very smooth surface. The grainy texture I mentioned on the enamel surface is extremely fine as the surface is perfectly smooth.

From what I can tell from using the clear matte and the videos of the smoke, the smoke is basically the clear matte plastidip with a slight grey tint to it.

Btw, I'm going to try to do a small sample piece of black plastidip and then get enough layers of enamel on it to be able to wet sand at 600 grit to get a smooth surface. Will probably be later in the week when it is posted. I think the enamel says to wait 48 hours before sanding.

That matte blue might look better with some of the glossifier or metalizer.

I'm toying around with the option of doing this. Not super serious yet but investigating.

Yeah, I especially like the description:

"Plasti Dip® BLAZE Orange is a very bright, beautiful orange that is perfect for orange accents, trim and wheels. Exactly what you need to set your car apart from the rest."

http://www.dipyourcar.com/product.ph...&cat=26&page=1

That would set you apart alright. Not sure it would be set apart in a good way.

^-- actually over in the new dipyourcar.com forums (in the Grills and Trim dipping section) there is a thread over there titled "2012 gli orange dip." and what that person did with the Blaze orange doesn't look all that bad.

Here is one of the pics that was posted up over there.

I bought center caps from 04-08 tsx which are embossed. Got a Q-tip and dipped it in some cooking oil and spread it over the entire surface. Then used red spray paint and painted over the cap. Since the paint won't stick to the oil you can wipe it clean and you have a perfectly painted center cap.

Afterward I dipped my rims and caps all at once and just peeled the inside plastidip out of the centre apps to reveal the red.

Sean, I've been wanting to try that smoke on my mirror turn signals. I've read that it's not dark enough tho. You got any clear plastic to spray it on so I can see. Also is this "experiment" what you and I talked about at FF?

^-- consider this playing around and doing some testing towards that experiment. For the smoke test, would a piece of plexiglass work?

I need to redo my trim pieces (maybe wheels too) and I might use plasti-dip.

Thanks for the experimenting, Sean!

No Problem! Just remember to protect me when my girlfriend decides to kill me for this. She groans every time she hears the word Plastidip or finds out that I'm playing with the stuff again.

I just played around with the blue. You'll want to read my posting when I get to that one in a bit. First it's smoke time!

Funny thing. I was looking for a piece of plexiglass when I saw that the internal diffuser from the stock tail lights was sitting right in front of me (another project in progress).

Hope this is what you were wanting to see!

Let's hear it for some Smoke Plastidip!

Coat 4 - Here I accidentally had a heavy spot go right through the middle.

Coat 5 - Since I messed up a little bit on coat 4 I decided to go heavy all over on coat 5. Made quite a difference in the look.

Coat 6 - A light coat to even out coat 5.

Coat 7 - Final light coat to even out coat completely.

Is that the blaze though? If so, might have a good amount of glossifier on top

I forget the actual color used. He used plasti dip as a base tho and painted over it. Check in the UA7 squad thread to find out the color.

I could try an enamel clear coat over it tomorrow if you want. It'll make the color deeper but not a whole lot darker.

I don't think it will be the look I was going for. On a side note do you know how to get those little pieces off the mirror? I've never read where someone actually took them off. I think I am going to Niteshade them.

Now for the Blaze Blue! (I've been busy tonight)

I like the blaze blue at lot but it has one major caveat. It doesn't have as good coverage. In order to get what I felt was a solid color I needed 8 coats. I first plastidipped an aluminum surface with the black and then did 2 strips of blaze blue over it. After that I then used the sliver metalizer over one of the blue strips. Then over half of the area of the blue strips/metalizer I put on 3 coats of Gloss Enamel.

With the Metalizer it actually does a really nice job in just one coat. I went ahead and did a second coat but felt that was getting close to overkill. One drawback of the Metalizer is that is uses the Glossifier as the base so you get the Light diffusion again.

I'll let you judge the rest from the picks below. I'll post up some better daylight pics in the next day or two. Tomorrow is officially 2 years of dating my girlfriend. I may get castrated if I work on Plastidip stuff tomorrow.

Blaze Blue Strips: 4 Coats - Can still see black showing through.

Blaze Blue Strips: 6 Coats - Can still see black showing through in person.

Blaze Blue Strips: 8 Coats - Complete Coverage.

Silver Metalizer: 1 Coat - I'd probably have stopped with just 1 coat.

Silver Metalizer: 2 Coats

Silver Metalizer: 2 Coats - Light Diffusion

Enamel Pics: I like how it deepens the Blaze blue.

Nope, I don't. My car doesn't have them so I having bothered. There has to be some way to change the bulb so the should come off somehow.

Quick question, does any one know if scratches or scraps on a rim would affect the outcome of plastidip? Also is it possible to plastidip an engine cover or is it too hot that it'll melt?

About scratches, it would depend how deep they are. It should cover up any imperfections tho. I think I remember seeing someone do plasti-dip on engine covers underneath the hi-temp paint they were using.

The Wheel Kit comes with at least 4 cans. Although it seems weird with the Gunmetal as the individual cans are $7 a piece but the kit is $31.50 which would seem to indicate either 5 cans or a bad deal.

I like the way you got the flat black to gloss up. How did you do that, as I've tried it no matter how much gloss I spray it only get up to a satin look. I sprayed my lower lip on my 350Z. Thanks

but the can spray has matte color right?
Not metal or gloss

And I think wheel kit's doens't come in spray can's.
Comes with a bottle spray and you fill it with plasti dip.

That's why I can't make sure how the Gunmetal color comes out with the Wheel kit.

In his videos he only tested the spray can Gunmetal

I used Rustoleum Auto Enamel Gloss spray on it to do that. Plastidip gloss can't do that much shine. You can still pull of the plastidip after putting the enamel on it. Just make sure you have a solid coating of plastidip down before using the enamel on it.

Good point. You may have to call them with that question. However I'd think the two colors should be the same.
