Not a problem! Turned out a lot better looking than I anticipated. Only took 2 hours from start to finish.

If there's more members interested in plastic dip definately check out this webpage. http://www.dipyourcar.com/shop/page/51?shop_param=
If you want to make the plastidip glossy, you can try the glossifier or use flat black and then paint the emblem again with regular gloss paint. It will still peel off, since the plastidip is underneath.

That's how long it took me, after about 5 coats.

If you decide to dip your rims, be sure to put a clearcoat over it, or else the dip will turn to shit a lot quicker

Doesn't the type-S already comes with a nice gunmetal finish? Why would you plasti dip that?

Yes, it does. I'm not sure what shape his wheels are in, mine have a few big scratches from the previous owner. I want to hide the blemishes until I buy my aftermarket rims.

^ Then I wouldnt worry about it. If you are planning on selling your Type-S wheels later; it will be a PITA to remove it. Gunmetal FTW

It's rather easy to remove plasti dip, I've re-done one of my wheels and I couldn't believe how easily it came off, but that's because I had 5 coats I guess.

I plastidipped the aluminum trim of the grill with the anthracite plastidip and the center bar with black dip and left the emblem chrome. I like the way it looks. The anthracite dip is darker but I think it was because I used the plastidip glossifier and that made it darker. I might plastidip the emblem with the anthracite dip or the black, still undecided. I was even thinking of doing the whole hood and my Type-S rims with the anthracite dip. The anthracite dip is a darker gunmetal and I think it would be nicer than the stock Type-S gunmmetal.

I dipped mine out of curiosity and ended up liking the new look. I like being able to get creative with the look whenever I get tired of it.
Be careful though, its easy to get carried away.

I dipped my grille and emblems this weekend. I did everything in grey plasti dip and then sprayed black automotive paint on the emblems. Removing the dip from the inside of the A on the rear was a PITA and it could have been how I sprayed it on (I did 2 light coats and 2 medium coats). I think it looks pretty good and I'm happy with the result. I actually like how it doesn't match the Anthracite completely. I might end up doing the center bar black.

You have the base model so I wouldnt worry about damaging the paint unlike the type-s. Not everyone on here knows how to properly and carefully remove plasti dip.

I did mine back in May. I liked the way it turned out. I actually took off the emblem, that center bar piece, and the trim on the hood and sprayed them seperately. Then I masked off the front bumper and sprayed the rest of the aluminum color. Then once everything was all dry, I reinstalled everything. I used a whole can for the front so it's nice and thick and will hold up to the elements. It rains like a b***h here in Florida.

Looks really close to the result I got; IMO it's a great look for AM and probably wouldn't look too bad on ASM or WDP.

Hey prdude, did you remove the bumper to do that or get the grille off without having to do so? I taped mine off and used index cards and such, and it was an ordeal to say the least. I just didn't want to remove the bumper (lazy, I know).

At about a foot away I can see a couple spots on the edges where I couldn't get it on thick enough. I just notice minor details like that and would like to remove it and give it a few more coats.

I have been looking everywhere for good photos of stock TL rims for our year with plastidip. After seeing yours I am very.... very interested in doing this with my wheels very soon. Thank you for pictures!

I didn't remove the bumper but I did remove the trim on the front of the hood, the center piece from the grill that goes across the middle and the "A". I painted those pieces separately with about 5 coats. Then I masked off the area around the rest of the grill and painted it with about 5 coats as well. I gave everything about an hour to dry and then I reassembled everything. It was my first time using Plasti Dip and I am very satisfied with it.

Looks good dude. I did the same with my TL when I first got it. Later I debadged the whole thing expect for the A in the back. My front grille is the opposite of yours. I black out the whole thing but the A and its sitting on some black wheels as well!! Good work though keep the pics coming

Should have kept the lug nuts silver as well. They would have matched the center caps. Quick question though, when you take your wheels off do you ever have trouble with not scraping the plasti dip off?? Every time I have to take the wheels off I mess up the plasti-dip

Clearcoat over Plasti-dip

Agree with what your saying! The end finish will be way better with the clearcoat rather than just the plasti dip. However, if you ever want to take it off I've had multiple experiences (with my badges and my friends wheels) where the plasti-dip is extremely hard to get off. Instead of peeling it chips off almost like paint. At the end of the day its all based on opinion and what you wanna choose to do with whatever youre painting

I plasti dipped them with the wheels on, but covered the brakes completely, I painted the center caps too but I didn't like it that much so I easily peeled it off of them. After about a month, the wheels were taken off to replace the warped rotors and the plasti dip did not come off of the lug nuts but it did scrape a little but not really noticeable, but I am thinking about removing the plasti dip off of lug nuts. Otherwise, the plasti dip has held up nicely.

If you decide to use clearcoat over it or glossifier, it will be hard to remove the plasti dip later, it will come off but It'll come off in little pieces.

No problem, I've looked online before I did mine too but did not find any good pictures for our year TL.

Ah ok, that helps me out then as the parts I need to dip again are on the upper trim. Thanks for the info!

Just did my wheels today. Sprayed 3 coats of automotive paint on top for a glossier look. I think it turned out pretty well. I used index cards between the rim and tires (another user gave me the idea).

Sorry about the image; it wouldn't let me copy the URL from my iPad.
