I have seen the thread on pinstripe vs. no pinstripe and everyone pretty much bashed the pinstripe. This guy's was painted on Mine is just the decal. One of my friends, you know who you are asshole, has been harassing me ever since I got the car. I picked up this demo a couple of weeks ago and the dealer had put a red pinstripe on the car. Now, when they first told me over the phone, I told them that I would want it removed, not personally being a fan of pinstriping. Having seen it, I really don't think it's that bad.

I am concerned that removing the pinstripe will leave a line on the paint. I have used goo-gone before on emblems to remove the glue, but with a black car, I don't want to take any chances on having any blemishes/scratches. If I were to remove it, it would be with a hair dryer and then goo gone if any residue is left behind. Anyone removed pinstriping off of NBP?

If the pinstripes are the plastic tape variety, and haven't been on for a long time, they shouldn't leave any marks on the paint.

I took mine off with a thumb nail and some patience. Loosen the edge, and pull slowly on the tape. You can only get a few inches off before it breaks, but it didn't take long to do the whole job.

Before someone says something about scratching the paint, I checked very carefully and there are no marks or scratches on the paint from removing the pinstripes.

And those wide pictures really makes it hard to read your posting.

Thanks, Ron A...you think applying a little heat with a hair dryer would ease the process?

kilrb- get some Visine and no one will no you are high

 

I'm not sure about the heat with pinstriping. Heat works good when removing moldings, but on pinstripes it might make the glue release, but then it might make the stripes softer or something so they would tear quicker. Won't hurt to try it on a short length and see how it works with the heat.

Thanks for the resize. And the red stripes on the NBP are a bit gaudy.

Had a friend make a snide remark about the old batmobile (black and red)

 

use a little heat and pull slowly.. do it sooner rather then later.. will not leave a mark.. wax and polish when you are done..

 

i had the painted one on.. and it looks much better off.. mine matched though, i don't know what the dealer was thinking about the red..

Pulled off the pinstripe last night, along with the dealer emblem...residue came right off with some carnauba cleaner wax.....finished up with Eagle One Wax. You'd never know there was a pinstripe on the car before!

It looks a WHOLE lot better and now, all of a sudden, people who said it looked good are saying that they didn't like it originally, but they just didn't want to say anything. Anyway, it looks much better, and I got a fresh coat of wax on the blackbird

yeah, I got the dealer's demo. It was the only black on black 6-speed in the southeast at the time. I know for a fact b/c I called dealerships in ATL, Birmingham, Memphis, and Huntsville and had them look for me. I didn't want to wait another 6-8 weeks. The car only had 1200 miles on it and it still smells new.

 

I would just use mineral spirits or Prep Sol like the bdy shops use. Goo_Gone is just expensive mineral spirits (petroleum distillates).

 

I actually used a carnauba based cleaner wax...Came right off with minimal effort (didn't want to scratch- especially on black)

Fine solution. But look at the bottle - bet it says "contains petroleum distillates". Carnauba has to be in a solvent, as it is impossibly hard in natural state. I would also not want the cleaners in your cleaner/wax to put any of the pinstripes color or adhesive into the pores of my paint - so I will still suggest using the min spirits to remove and CLEAN, then use your wax to apply protection.

 

oh gosh that does not look good at all, i'm sorry but i can't really see that pin stripe matching the lines of the car. it actually clashes with the grove running across the car. i would remove it if i were you. pin stripes belong on classic cars not modern ones.

 

caball- read the thread....I already took it off

road rage- I dont know how it would put the pinstripes color in my paint. I pulled the pinstripe by hand- it pulled right off. Then the tiny bit of residue came right off with cleaner wax. You can't tell it was ever there and the wax didn't hurt the paint. I immediately finished up by waxing the whole car with Eagle One wax.
