that's the thrill of owning a TL.
I believe in you 100%. Like I said, the shape makes the old one look slow. The newly TL drives fast and also looks fast.

I never liked the 00s, 01s, 02s or 03. They looked so conservative, even the Type S CL. They all looked like big boats. I have 2 friends who are trading 02 and 03 TLs for the new 04 TL. Over all both cars are great, but the 04 TL is more a head turner. I just feel so bad for all those pre 04 TL owners that are stucked with the older granpa-ma looking cars....This is my own opinion.

the 04TL is more "muscular" which means it takes a little away from the "luxury look", which is fine with me.

that's why in the fashion business models are thin,
and not muscular

people keep asking for more HP, then you have to modify the look of the car to match that power! otherwise it looks wrong.

my view

for the pic the 02 look too squared in the back, if i had only seen it from the back i would have guessed it to be a much older car

Sounds like a group of jealous "I just bought a TL few years ago and can't get the newer TL" group. Bad timing!

The reason I bought my '04 TL in first place was because someone I know got into an '03 TL for 30g last year. I saw that it offered a lot for the car and looked hansome enough, but still looked like another camery or honda.

THEN, I saw the '04 TL this year and I have not felt excited about a car as much as I did with this car since my High School year in my old Z28. In my opinion, this car has style that speaks 'aggression' far more than any other japanese sedan. This is the car that says "spreckenzie japanese?" as it romps over a beamer 3 or any other euro class. '04 TL stands out and catches plenty of attention - you all have noticed as well.

So, I'm not sure why other '04TLers are chiming in, but I can only speak for my self and say that this is the first Japanese sedan that can stand equally (aven above) the euro sedans. Just check out the consumer report - previous TL never got this far.

Go on and gawk and mock - or treat yourself by joining in on the fun and get a new TL. You won't regret it.

pictures do not do any justice for the 04 TL. if you go and look IN PERSON you will see that the tl looks way better than the older styles. the older style is a lil longer and the height is short which IMO does not look good with that dimension combo. the 04 tl is more aggressive sporty looking. Just go see it in person and you know what im talking about.

Never did consider the Acura brand until i stumbled grudgingly into a dealership at the behest of my gf. The front of the TL is nothing to shout about but from the back, it has a modern and very classy look to it (gotta thank BMW for that design). The interior is however where the real juice is...so much better than than the acclaimed interiors of base Audi and BMW which is very surprising.

In a time when the backs of cars are falling off or they look chopped off (such as the M34, G35, Maxima, Malibu, ION, etc.) I'd say it's good to see that the TL has a back, no matter how bland it is. It's not overstated but I really like it.

What is Really Going On Here?

I had a 03 TL (paid off) before I purchased the 04 (both Antracite).

The day I bought my car, I had parked the cars side-by-side to unload my belongings from the old to the new car. As I went to talk to my sales rep, I looked back over my shoulder and took a good look at the both cars, to me the 03 looked like a 1950's Edsel next to the new car, and being one who has had both cars, the 04TL blows the 03 out of the water hands down! Period.

I will give the 03 props in a few areas:
1) I miss the lower fog lamps
2) 04 is not as fast as I thought it would be by comparison, but it is still faster.

It's the new TL that bridged the gap between the Beemers and Benzo's, the older car could of never made that statement.

Hats off to those of you who like the old or new, that's what makes us unique, if you like the pre 03's get one or keep the one you have. If you like and can "afford" the 04, you'll never look back.

The '03 TL's resemble the old Legends which were beautiful in their time but compared to the '04's, the '03's look like old cars. Period. You're kidding yourself if you think they look better than the '04's.

Seems like we have the 2nd Gen owners who still have their cars loving them and the 3rd Gen owners preferring theirs. Not having one yet, I have to say that when I bought my MDX I really was impressed with Acura and looked at the '03 TL for me. I test drove a TL-S and thought that is was fun and spirited. However, I could not get past the feeling that it was just to bland. I think there should be a stock pic in the same color side by side and the opinions might sway. As someone who is not going to get the moldings, etc... I have to say that the '03 and '04 are, well, generations apart!

I have now had the chance to see several 04-TL in different colors and at various angles. I remain unimpressed with its exterior look. I think one guy (who bought a 04) in these forums said it best: it looks like a Civic in steroid. That is what it looks like. It is neither elagant (the 2nd Gen are more elegant) or sporty. I am definitely keeping my 2nd Gen for now.
