Is the cover decorative, functional or both?

Holy cow, that intake manifold would look great polished or chromed. Plenty of aluminum showing

Doesn't look too easy to install sparkplugs on the firewall side.

nice picture...

thanks for sharing, I tried removing some of the covers, but they are a little stiff because it's so new.
some people have painted the covers silver and valve cover in red, and it looks good too.

You should leave it off. Think of it this way. Less heat trapped, more power. Especially since the intake manifold is right under the cover. This has proven to help the G35 without the cover.

If taking the covers off indeeds increase more horsepower, we need to see some back up such as a dyno test!!!
If it is true, I am all for it taking the covers off for more horsepower w/out having to dish out some cash!

Dynos don't prove everything. but when you can drop over 40 degrees on the intake manifold, it will help in the power department.

Actually what we need is a vented hood on our TLs.

You're right, if it can drop the intake temp 40 then it will make more power, which will show up on a dyno.

I do believe the cover-off could cool down the engine bay in some situations, and the lower temperature environment would definitely help CAI and performance... but, without mechanistic experimentation, it's hard to fully agree this theory is applying to our car.

How's about trying some 0-60 or 1/4 mile?

It will not usually show up on the dyno for one big reason. The hood is open, the fan is blowing in the engine, and the air isn't trapped. When the hood is closed and your on the road is when it helps.

You forgot to take off two covers, haha. The ones at the top by the strut towers and the strut tower brace.

Still need proof. No speculation.

I wonder what type of spray paint would adhere well to the plastic and withstand the heat...

Do you think polyurethane would?

I did have them all off at one time. If I decide to paint the covers I will snap another shoot with all of them off.
