95% of the time it's in my pocket. 5% right next to the shifter or on top of the cup holder sliding door.
I usually keep it in my pocket cause I don't want my phone flying to the floor when I'm driving.
I don't put it in the cup holder, might get sticky lol.

Same order here. During summertime, a cold drink sweats...a lot. I made this mistake and the sweat from the cold drink in the higher cup holder made its way down to the lower one and soaked the bottom of my phone. I haven't put my phone in the lower cup holder since.

injured... injured bad
I keep mine on the driver door arm rest and for some reason I've never had any problems with it staying put. Now I never turn my car sideways, but I get after it sometimes and my blackberry (tour) doesn't move that much if at all.

As far as putting a phone on your lap goes....it seems to me that with all the speculation about whether cell phone radiation is bad for one's BRAIN, then putting a phone on one's LAP is the worst possible place (assuming 95% of us posting in this thread are male, that is). Kinda like how people will carry a Blackberry in a holster mounted on the front of one's belt. A cell phone only transmits when it's in use, but a Blackberry sends and receives constantly....you really want that radiation next to your nuts?

You mean the 12V plug, right?
There is a hole/slot in the bottom of the upper compartment that allows you to plug the phone charger into the lower compartment power outlet, while trailing the phone plug into the top compartment where the phone is placed-- at least that's what I do.

I believe some electronics stores carry an adapter with the lighter plug on one end and a standard outlet on the other so that you can convert your car's 12V DC to standard AC. I imagine you'd have to be pretty careful what you try to power off those things, though.

Funny you say that. One of the guys at the place I used to work had four kids. When I made the comment about Blackberry radiation, he stared at me for a minute, then took his Blackberry holster and clipped it to his fly.

IPHONE4 USERS:
I put my iphone4 on the driver's side door, where the controls are to open/close windows. The indentation for the controls and the "deactivate all power windows" form a perfect snnug cradle to hold the phone. AWESOME discovery one day

Use HFL and put my phone on top of the cup holder so I see the picture of whose calling or if I am drinking a redbull (which is almost always) then it goes right next to the cig lighter compartment infront of the shifter so I can see the led notifier and easy to grab if someone calls to see the picture.

Still gonna try it though.

I use this everytime I drive. Plays my music, videos, and charges my phone. It's not for everyone, because it's not easy to make, plus you Lose the cup holders. But I rather have this which I use all the time. than some lame cup holders
Here's a few pics

I do the same thing, and have the same concept of not having your phone in your pocket. Great minds think alike I guess...

I don't like stuff in my pockets when I drive either, so I put my wallet in the lower compartment in front of the shifter and the cell phone facing up on top of the covered cup holder compartment. I have the charger wire sticking out of the center console slot just enough to plug into the phone. The phone stays put... mostly.

Am I the only one that leaves it laying facing up on the drivers side arm rest???
It doesn't slide around because of the cover it has..
I don't leave inside the center console since I always have gum, keys etc in there neither on top of the center console since my iPod always lays there..
But I will try the area on the door people mentioned here

I use that compartment on trips over 1/2 hour and to charge the phone when necessary.
Otherwise, I either put the phone and holster in a cupholder, or put the phone itself on top of the semi-closed cup holder compartment cover, with the handle of the compartment cover holding the phone on one side against the armrest.

I do this in my Civic too, but I do it because there's no HFL.

Man, I guess this underscores the degree to which people in Maryland obey the "no hand-held cell phone" law. I wish the use of those stupid things constituted per se reckless driving. There's no excuse for not having an earpiece if a car doesn't have an HFL-style device.
