Perfect way to start a morning ...advice needed.

First and foremost .. I am fucking pissed.

I went to a chill kickback at a buddies house last night, about 8 or so people were there.

We partied for a bit, waited a couple hours and left to my house.

I slept, wokeup and saw this:

There are finger prints / fabric marks where he ass planted on my hood. I know for a fact this happened last night because I closely inspected my car earlier in the day time.

The problem is, the dent is RIGHT on the crease of the hood ... so I really doubt paintless dent removal will work.

I am asking for advice .. The first thing I am going to do is get more information on who did it and if successful, I am going to make them pay for it.

What pisses me off the most is the fact nobody was man enough to tell me. They just dipped out and now I'm stuck with replacing a hood.

What should I do guys?

I have their fingerprints on my hood on who did it .. but I really doubt the Police would take fingerprints on a $500 / $600 automobile repair.

Thoughts?

Dude that's royally messed up.

I hope this wasn't close friends of yours. If so I'd consider finding a new social circle.

Anyone that you would call friend should fess up right away to this, not saying anything and just leaving is not what a true friend would do.

Look at it this way, if you find out who did it and they still won't admit to the damages, at least you've figured out that this person is only worth $500 and isn't worth your time or friendship.

^ I agree, call up dentless removal and see what they have to offer.

A good friend would've manned up and told you.

I say just find out the person caused and sue them to make them pay for it if they don't want to pay when you ask them nicely. This friend probably isn't worth keeping around anyways.

Remember to dust for the fingerprints before you do anything else. Grind up some of the mechanical lead and use clear tape.

Nothing wrong with telling the police you have a $2,000 estimate and you need it fingerprinted. Let your friends know it's been fingerprinted (even if it hasn't) and you're waiting for the results and $2,000 is a felony. Likely the guilty one will come forward.

If there's a crease it's not likely paintless dent removal will work. If not, they can probably fix it.

Do you really think the police would believe a dented hood would be a $2000 estimate?

Fingerprints are HIGHLY visible and very easy to get off.

To fix the dent in mine plus the repaint I was quoted $1,600. Luckily I got it covered with the insurance. It's not that far off.

Call dealer parts department to see how much for hood. Then check painting and installation.

I should have provided more details ..

The place where this kickback took place is totally rural .. very nice neighborhood that's gated.

This blows, I really hope I find the culprit .. or I'm going to be SOL.

I might just go down to a junkyard and see if they will let a hood go for cheap.

get it fingerprinted ASAP before they get smudged off. Technically this would be hit and run, as well vandalism.

The dent is too big for paintless dent repair.

That hood can be repaired by any good body man. It will need to be painted. They should be able to do it without blending the fenders- NBP is a very easy color to paint. Maybe a blend to the left fender but thats it.

That might be the best route. But I would still mention that you've got it fingerprinted and are waiting for the results. You may get lucky and someone may come forward.

I have a few friends investigating with me. Until then, I'm going to keep my car garaged so the fingerprints aren't effected by the sun.

If nobody fesses up by tomorrow morning, I'm going to file a police report and get things rolling.

What's the time limit on reporting something to the police? 24 hours or more?

Some people are morons. I was at the park for an ultimate frisbee game and we went to our cars because of lightning. These kids were still outside throwing peanuts or something at each other and one kid stops next to my car and leans his hand on my window, while I'm blatantly sitting there in the car. CLOWNS.

Sorry this nonsense happened to you. Get that car fingerprinted, and stay on the police like there is no tomorrow. Hopefully they can help you.

Just tell your friends that you had the police fingerprint it, even if you don't. If the culprit finds out that it was "fingerprinted" maybe he will come forward and take responsibility.

I hope all works out. Something like that should never happen, no matter what car you drive. People have no respect for others property.

in reality, this is what your comprehensive insurance coverage is for

The car was parked and you had nothing to do with the vandalism damage
Whatever your deductable is you pay- then insurance pays the rest

Get to a body shop or 3 and get estimates on a genuine ACURA hood- not some flimsy aftermarket one

Check your policy details and call your agent or company right away
They may say to file a police report just for the record, but this is not a major crime to LE- with their dwindling budgets and staff layoffs,
do you really think time should be invested in finding the heartless fool who did this horrible defacing of a TL??

Unless your friends have criminal records-they wont pop up in the computerized fingerprint system. Are you going to pay $150 per person to have them all fingerprinted?

You need to party with some different people. It wouldn't surprise me if the f*ker helping find out who it is.. is the same guy who did it. Trust me.. I've known a lot of guys like that.. they'll take your wallet then help you look for it after. You know exactly who was there.. now think who would be an asshole to do that, possible suspects:

  1. Douche Bag (thought it would be funny or just an ass)
  2. Dude whose girl you stole
  3. Drunk dude
  4. Couple making out at the party who used your hood instead (unlikely.. too high.. looks like an ass plant or someone sitting high on your hood).

It looks like they might be able to dryice it.. If you don't find out who did it.. don't worry about it. Just don't hang out with those douche bags anymore. I really wouldn't put any faith in fingerprinting.. but you can take the general hand print size.. trace a rough sketch on paper and have the guys you know match up their hand to the sketch.. trust me.. you'll be able to read face & body communication to look for guilt.

Carbon fiber is a little too much rice for me. I just like how clean stock body panels look.

I think I am just going to bite the bullet and buy a new hood from a junk yard or something.

Getting the Police involved .. I see it going nowhere it's just going to drag out without anything getting done (given the current circumstances)

I'm sure sooner or later I will hear something .. which then it will lead to a major ass kicking.

I'd try paintless dent repair first....the crease won't matter, it depends how much the metal has stretched. I had a deep dent on my roof fixed which had a deep V crease right on the corner of the roof where it meets the rear glass. I never thought they could fix it...and they did....for $100. The tech told me that most dents can be pulled....I'd give it a shot first to see where you're at before calling CSI. It helps if they can access both sides of the dent...which in this case they'll be able to easily.

Get someone who really knows what they are doing to assess the damage...I'm guessing the dent could be pulled.

Damn Tyler, that is rough. Sorry to hear that. I hope whoever did it man's up and tells you. Doesn't Matt have an extra hood? Is he still planning on parting out?

I work at an automotive assembly plant in Indiana. I've seen far worst dents be repaired by some of our really talented body shop techs. I can tell you its definately fixable.

Call to report them up and ask for the forensic team to dust off those fingerprints, sometimes they dont send out forensic but they let sheriff do it too. Try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0UAU...eature=related
