Parking lights - how do I keep my lights on?

I had to park on a fairly busy street the other day, and would have preferred to leave my rear (red) and front ("side marker") lights on for added safety. I set the lights to the first switch position (front/rear lights without headlights) but as soon as I got out the car (or after the timer expired), they went off.

So is there a way to force the lights ON, and keep them ON, with the ignition removed and doors locked? I know this is a risk (of battery drain) but - one I'm willing to take.

Thanks!

how does keeping ur lights on add to safety??? if ur car is parked, thats about as safe as it can get. now if someone hits ur parked car, then thats juss sad on their part.

but if u insist, u can always keep ur hazards on

Yeah I was just gonna say hazzards as well. I only do this if I'm double parking for a quick 2 mts. And you'll be amazed at how many people still come and stop behind my car and wait like f'n 2mts. before they realize they need to go around me. So crashing into parked cars must happen more than we actually think it does. LOL

I think there is a setting on your MID to deactivate your auto-off headlights, just check. But as mentioned it would be smart to have your hazzards on too. I was rear ended once on the shoulder of the highway. She was going 70mph. I was parked going 0. Learned my lesson from that. Anything can happen anytime, don't trust it!

This is precisely what Hazard lights are for.

Also +1 on the HID setting. I believe auto off can be turned off.

Well, I'm not parking in a 'hazardous' spot; I'm parking in a perfectly legitimate spot, but - on a small road with zero street lighting and poor visibility so I figured I'd just do something to help illuminate my car a bit. In Europe, and in the US some time ago, this was standard practice - there was a setting on the ignition switch that would allow you to remove the key while leaving 'side lights' on.

Oh well, not a big deal. I'll look into the 'auto-off' feature - thanks.
