Paint work on a WDP? Dump truck unloaded on me today
don't have any pics yet, but i was driving on hwy 63north in missouri today when i rolled up on a dump truck that apparently hit a bump in the road and decided to drop about 15 or so quarter inch rocks on my hood and bumper, i tried to catch him, but the more i got up close to him the more damage my car took.
so i stopped in the middle of the road to overlook the damage.
Now i'm looking to repaint the bumper and hood, i'm so picky, i don't think i could stand looking and waxing over 10 huge chips in my bumper and hood. Since OEM paint doesn't match with the bumper and hood. How is some local Paint guy going to match it, and is it even worth it..

If the job involves applying color to the whole hood, the fenders will need to be color blended, painted as well. If you have both fenders blended, they can match the color perfectly with the front bumper. Keep in mind some slight color mismatch may appear between bumpers and fenders at certain angles, because they are not perfectly even or flush adjacent panels. This comes into play when the color is a heavy metallic or pearl. These colors flop at different angles. The oem match problem is a pure lack of effort. High end shops paint match bumpers all day with acceptable results, if the chosen shop is good you should have no problems.

Nope, no door blends needed. Even though they might color the whole hood, the fenders can be blended from the front through the middle. If the painter/shop is good, they will keep the color away from the edges butting up to the A pillar and door panel. Even though its a 3 stage paint, it's easily do-able. I've done over a hundred jobs similar to this in the past. I would remove the hood and bumper from the car so the whole panels can be colored without compromising the blends on the fenders, to ensure its done right the first time. The hood can be removed very quickly, it will just cramp a smaller paint booth if anything.
The paint flake direction and color can be matched almost perfectly by a good painter/shop and with time. I had to get a panel repainted on the TL after an accident, and the painter managed to get the flake to sit just how it came from the factory. The paint also matches very well, only a person with a lot of repaint knowledge can tell it was repainted.
Ive never been on this end of the forum but i was exploring.
I have an 02 WDP TLS and i had to get paint work done a few months ago. I called the Acura dealer and asked which shop they recommend and took it to them. They did an awesome job blending it into the fenders. I dont think you should have too much of a problem as long as it is a good paint shop and the paint guy knows what hes doing. Good Luck man.

Had our WDP front bumper painted a while ago. First shop I went to wouldn't guarantee a match, but the second said he would as they spray test pieces to make the match. Absolutely perfect no matter what angle is viewed. With the crappy match from the factory, I wish I had the rear bumper painted also.
Good shop, no problem, but it takes time.

That sucks about your car man. Thats why I NEVER drive behind large vehicles. Those big ass tires could kick up some nasty stuff.
