Paint or Spray

I wanna paint my brake calipers. I am using VHT high temp paint. The problem I'm having is that I don't know which one is better and give better qualities. So what one is better? Should I paint it with a brush or spray paint using the can? Is there anybody who have already paint their calipers, please post some pics? Thank you so much!!

well you can definitely get more detailed with the brush. but a good sanding and a spray will give you a nice smooth even look

I would spray because I believe that brush takes to long.

Brush if you don't want to remove the calipers.

Spray if you will be removing and sanding the calipers.

If you still want to use spray without removing calipers, use masking tape, make sure everything is covered. Without sanding, the paint will peal eventually.

Good Luck

PS I was thinking of painting my calipers, but they are nice stock.

I used the brush on kind. It is a whole day job and you can't drive your car right away but it is well worth it. I did three coats and it shines like crazy.

I'd skip the VHT stuff. Very old skool. There are newer types on the market. I'd spend a bit more and go for the G2 caliper paint system. If you want to go a lil more cheaper I'd say Dupli-color's new line is better stuff than VHT. only $15 and it comes with all the stuff you need.

It's all about how well you want your project to come out. If you are really trying to do this right it's advisable to even take your caliper apart. But if you don't want to go that far, at least buy brush on instead of spray. Brush on will keep the paint where it belongs instead of sprayed all over the place where it dosen't belong. I know a lot of people are going to counter me on this and say they did just as fine with spray but it's just my 2 cents.

i left the calipers on and sanded them down, then put that blue painters tape and i used the dupli-color caliper paint spray. I did my TL and my friends Trailblazer SS in one day using one can with three coats of paint on each caliper

they make a 2 part paint system that coats the calipers really nice....but no driving for a day or more to fully let it dry. the heat from the brakes n dust would destroy the paint u just tried putting on.

G2 prolly does a nicer job but you won't be able to tell the difference from 5 feet. I us Plasti-Kote on mine and after 3 winters was fine .. 2 winters now on this car .. all fine ..

You decide .. G2 is $$ and lots of labour and no driving for a day or so .. Plasti-Kote is less $$ and dries in 15 min .. ready for another coat. I did 3 on mine and moved on to the next wheel.. all done in 2 hours. Including cleaning & masking ... $1 for a plastic drop sheet to put on car.

G2 is also a 2 part so working life is short.

G2 is order on line in most cases .. others off the shelf.

Just so you know, I used the G2 stuff. I've used it twice now. First go was three years ago, two coats and still looks great. Only a few rock chips but with the harsh winters up here, I think they handled it phenomenally.

i used the G2 and its been great. i did three coats. you must be quick cause it gets thick fast. the thinner it is, the more even and smooth the coats will be. make sure it is all prepped and ready to go cause once you mix it, you dont have much time
