Paint Chip Repair
I did a search on this topic and found one thread in the 2G forum. Somebody is recommending an Acura Paint Pen from e-bay. (http://search.stores.ebay.com/ws/sea...spagename=WD1S) I have a couple of questions from our esteemed panel of experts.
Is this paint pen the best option for chips?
Can it be purchased anyplace else besides on e-bay?
Is there a recommended procedure for filling in these chips?
Thanks!

Paint Pen
I have the Acura Paint pen, but have yet to use it. (Just in case....*quickly crosses fingers and Knocks on REAL wood*)
It has colour matched paint in one end and the clear coat in the other end. Comes with instruction page.
Forget e-bay and go to your dealer. A lot faster I would think.
These are supposed to be good for slight repairs.
Good luck

Looks like an interesting product. I bought the paint chip repair kit from Langka and I just need touch-up paint to start my chip repairing. Maybe I should get one of those pens!

I am planning on getting the pen from the dealer. I'm sure it'll be the most $ of them all, but I'll (theoretically) know it's going to match, etc...
Be sure to keep wax on any nicks PRIOR to repair... Remove the wax for repair. Repair and let dry completely and then rewax the entire area....

From previous readings, I'll assume I should use some dishwashing soap to remove the wax from over the chip?

Anyways...
Use a cleaner wax to remove the actual wax you use to protect your car. While we all know dish soap removes wax... By no means does it do it immediately or evenly or completely... The cleaner wax is the way to go....
Occasionally with my cars, I will take all of the was off the entire car with this cleaner wax and rewax so as to ensure the amount of old wax/wax buildup is minimal over time.
Just my thoughts...

I find it very difficult to use the pen since you have to push down on the pentip to get the paint to come out. It doesn't come out evenly at all so it can blob just as easily as with the touch-up bottle. I still prefer the paper matchstick method where you dab gently in the pits to fill up the chips.

Thanks for the info. Is cleaning wax the same thing as rubbing compound?

NUPE!
They's different...
Cleaner wax will remove all the old wax, and take you down to the clear coat so you can apply a new coat of wax.
Rubbing compound is a little "harsher" for lack of a better term...
Check this out: http://www.paintscratch.com/brush.htm
Some more good info for you!
Personally... If the chips are small, I use a toothpick and take my good ol' time and make sure it turns out nice... (With the remove wax, repair, rewax method I outlined earlier)
Also for your reading pleasure, here is a rubbing compound thread :
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...bbing+compound
There are many other threads as well, if you do a search....
Hope this helps!

I've never had good luck with touch-up paint...the metallic flakes never seem to mix properly no matter how hard I try and shake the bottle. The color usually comes out too dark. If someone finds out a trick to making it work....please let me know. I've got Anthracite.

Don't use cleaner wax to remove wax on your car!! Cleaner wax is just what it says....WAX. The paint will not stick to it. Use a wax stripper you can get at a local auto paint store. You can even use alcohol if you like. Cleaner wax is just wax with abrasives in it. It is still wax.

I have used Mothers California Gold Pre-Wax Cleaner in the past to remove old wax prior to rewaxing the car...
That should clear things up on my end...
(Bottom line - go to the store... And read the bottles of GOOP! Be sure to remove the wax is the main point I'm getting at, before the repair.)

I live in Canada and bought it for about $12 CDN. It helps blend out the chip from a distance but still blatantly obvious up close. It is only a patch job afterall. It's the most painful when it's 2 inches away from the clear bra!

I've just been a lurker since July when I got my NBP Navi. Just to let you guys know that the "Dupli-Color" brand makes a touch-up pen(roller ball and brush) for NBP, their part # HA00982 (B92-P) and they also have a clear coat touch-up pen, part # NGSF125. I didn't notice if they produce all the other colors, but it's worth a check. The can be gotten at any large auto supply, I got mine at Auto-Zone. The NBP is a very good match.

I bought a paint chip repair kit and the factory color paint from Discount Auto parts. It required a little wet sanding but after I was done it was well worth it....
