Owning a TL
Owning a TL
Being older than most in this forum, I thought I’d share my perspective on owning a TL. At this point in my life I have the ability to purchase what I want. I also have a Porsche Carrera 4 and my wife drives a Beetle Convertible. We were out looking at a new car for her and we sampled a variety of the prominent marques including a number from Germany. We drove some exceptional cars with abundant horsepower and very good handling attributes. But when you sit down, option them out and compare them to the TL you can’t help but shake your head at the value proposition. It’s good to know the TL gives you upper echelon value at the price of a….well …an upscale Honda I guess. LOL. The 3rd Gen TL's value for money is very hard to beat.
the tl is is probably the best value for your money. The TL isn't just made just for older folks, its made for a wide range. I see some members being 165 and some being 55 or older. BTW, are you gonna get rid of the porshe?

2004 Acura TL
I too am a bit Older that most of the group here (you should see during our meet
) It took me a huge amount of research...and lots of test driving to realize that the TL is the best value.
By the way...No issues (rattle, Potenza and all)

Well I am 26, and I drove a bunch of cars as well. I own a 1985 380SL, and I needed a winter car, I really was sitting on the 3 series fence, but when it came down to it I was suspicious because a 3 series didint even have an alarm. The TL has way more features, it looks different then any other car on the road, and it has a personality I think, and I am talking about the engine, it just feels like it has power, yeah other cars have more, but this one feels spot on.

I too am one of the "old guys" (54). My last car was a Lexus LS. My wife bought a MDX in 2002 and just loves it. It has been trouble free. The service at our Acura dealer has been great. When it came time for a new car I looked at the value of the TL vs. the competion and there was no comparison. The Lexus 350 comparably equipped would have been 5-6K more. The BMW 5 series probably 12-15 K more (beautiful looking car but friends who drive them have all kinds of problems). In May I purchased a 2006 5At with Navi Anthracite TL and I'm loving it.Actually it's taken 7-8 years off my age so maybe I'm really in my mid 40's now!

The TL is hard to beat fro the money, and in some cases, at any price. Acura's Nav system is the envy of the automotive industry. Enojys your car!

Very true. Having dealt with both the Infiniti navigation and Toyota's (worst in the world I think) Acura comes away clearly ahead. Even the navi in the 2nd gens was very user friendly.
At 41 myself, I'm still not even 20 in my head. Just ask my wife!
And that's what I love about the TL. I've aways been a gadget freak and the TL helps with that, wish they'd help a little more. Also love the 258 under the hood. And with it being a TL, it doesn't really stick out to the police. Unless you really change it.

A long story short, with all the others that were cruising faster than me, I get pulled over. The secret might be out on our cars. I still can't figure out why he pulled me over when I know that other cars going thru the same area were going faster than me just a few short minutes earlier. Be careful around Fredricksburg, VA on I95. BTW, I have an ABP TL-S. It isn't even the most pulled over color, which is red.
Who says old guys have to drive boring luxury cars. I'm 47 and I purchased my TL because it's sporty and it's the best car in it's class. Beside I've been a Honda fan most of my driving life. And who says we have to leave them stock too. A little tint, a little drop, some wheels and a body kit takes this car to a whole different level. It's fun to watch peoples faces when I pull up in this car and they realize it's some old guy driving this beast.

I evaluate cars like most enthusiasts: with my eyes and the seat of my pants….and then the price. That’s why the TL appeals to me. I was at my brother’s tonight who owns an MDX and we were discussing the latest offering of SUVs. I had been car shopping most of the weekend and had looked at a handful of high-end SUVs but nothing in the Acura line up. We reviewed Acura’s periodic magazine Expressions featuring the new RDX and MDX. For those of you that don’t know, Acura is planning a new model MDX and a new CUV entry the RDX for 2007. Given that most that read this forum and this thread will be advocates, it goes without saying we have a predisposition towards Acura. But looking at the introductory prices, features and proposed driving attributes of the new RDX and MDX and again…..comparing them to the market, it looks like Acura will hit a home run. It’s an interesting evolution in the Acura story. To me, it looks like it will be a defining moment that will push Acura just that little bit further into the luxury category. To be sure, automobiles are an extension of the personalities of the people that drive them and certain brands will have the cache people want, regardless of the car’s attributes. But I have a sense that Acura is doing everything it can to catapult its brand further into the top 3. If the RDX is everything it’s supposed to be, then eventually people’s buying habits will change. Trust me …..it took me some time to convince my wife to read the Acura article. She has a predisposition in favour of the more “affluent” marques. But the test is yet to happen. We’ll drive them and decide. To me, the most interesting future event is the introduction of Acura’s next generation TL. I can’t wait.

Old (Young) 56 Y.O. here. Very impressed with my TL and my wifes MDX. But, I have been following recent developments with the new models including the freshened 07 TL. I'm concerned that Acura's recent successes may have gone to their head a little.
07 RDX - $33,000-$41,300 / 18' Wheels & Tech Pkg. - This on dealers lot today!
07 TL - ?($36,000 - $41,000+) / Type S & Navi
07 MDX - ?($38,000 - $47,000+) / Tech Pgg. and RES
Don't look like the great bargins that they have been to me. Just a thought and I'll hope for the best.

I'm 42, and between my wife and I, we could afford a more expensive car- I personally refuse to pay more than 40K for a car (a continually depreciating asset). Obviously, my price max will have to go up as time goes on as cars get more expensive. I had an 00 TL because it was the best priced out of all the cars I was checking at the time (27K). I got an 06TL because my 00TL was such a great car, and the new one has more features- price was right too (Auto/Navi for $32800 before TTL). I bought the car and never looked back.
We have an 06 CTS as well- great car but a little more expensive (36K). There are a lot of great choices in the 30-40K price range, but the TL has em all beat.
