Outside temperature reading........

Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far in New Jersey. My outside temperature reading seemed fine until I left the car idling for about 15 minutes while I took care of a few things. When I got back in the reading was three bars, like this ---- ---- ----. I drove a block or two and it stayed like that. I shut the car off, and restarted it only to see a reading of 115. As I drove (at high speed) for the next 15-20 minutes the temperature slowly came down and read about 84. I think that was fairly accurate.

Anyone else experience this and is the 15-20 minutes to get back into the 80's normal?
How about you California or Florida or Texas owners??

I had mine hit 11x the other day, while sitting in the sun, but it only took five minutes or so to get back to the 80's, I think.

its normal, there was a post that explained how the temp reading worked. it gets more accurate as the car is in motion. when it sits idle the readings will be way higher.

This is also mentioned in the owner's manual. The thermometer is not accurate until the car has been above 19 mph for a certain amount of time.

I was just concerned over the amount of time it took for the temperature to become reliable again.
As far as the owners manual.......I am a firm believer in RTFM!!! However, , I left my bag on the train yesterday. Of course, all my manuals were in it. I will give it a week to see if anything shows up at lost and found and then have my dealer order me a new set.
