Other TL's

Is it just me or does anybody else get kind of pissed when they see other TL's on the road. I know there are some people who honk and wave and even one guy that wanted to start a brotherhood of TL owners but personally I get mad when I see other TL's on the road. Now I'm realistic and regardless of what car you own you're going to see the same car on the road but when I see 3 04 NBP on the way to the mall in one day I tend to get pissed. I first bought the car because it was so different to me. I was in the Persian Gulf and I never saw an Acura unless another American brought one with them over there. I would literally see Honda Vigor and Honda Integra from the locals but NEVER an Acura. So when I came back home I bought my 04 NBP TL and for a couple of months I seemed to be the only one on the road. Now that the end of the year is over and people are probably getting better deals than I did I see them everywhere. And the average driver seems to be in their 40's and 50's. Now before I get jumped on that one keep in mind I'm 24. If you are in your 40's/50's think back to when you were in your 20's and think about how you'd feel. Not that it really bothers me but 3 in the same color I have in one 10 mile trip is too much for me and warrents this post. All in all I still like my car and I'm still happy with it which is all that matters in the long run...I'm just wondering if anybody else feels the same way.

yeah i do but at the same time i always admire the other one. I have anthracite/ebony -- which I think is the most popular color (check the poll). I love my car but I wish it werent every other car. I guess it just goes to show you that you have a great car when everyone wants it!

I was also a little mad for awhile here in Colorado. There were barely any TL's around when I bought mine back in March. I know because I drive alot and am around the city from the foothills to Aurora and from Longmont to Englewood which is quite a big area. In the time frame since March I saw a couple SSM as well as ANT, but NO NBP. I swore I had the only one in the state. A month or so after I bought mine, someone in the same facility bought a NBP and I knew this because the 1st day they got it, they parked right next to me! Now I see TL's on a daily basis, I don't feel exclusive anymore. But then again, if you really wanted to be exclusive you would need a Ferrari/Lambo/Rolls/Bentley/_____ (fill in the blank). But, there IS affordable luxury, the secret is out!

when I was 24 I owned a '56 Olds that I had been given off a junk heap and fixed up to barely running condition. The equivalent of a new TL might have been something like a new Firebird with all the options.. pure fantasy. Sorry to sound like an old fogey (which I am) but how can all these 20 somethings on this forum afford TLs?

Whenever I see a TL I just get jealous. It's like the grill is just staring at me, trying to convince me to go to the dealership and pick one up. Tho, I was kinda upset that there are three in one single parking lot here where i work. A Anthracite, green, and a blue one. All so beautiful I know I've seen at least one other (WDP) in another lot. Suprisingly, there are no black ones, so that's probably what I'll end up getting.

Hopefully I can get these cali dealers to deal with me in september, I'm thinking of making an 04 my birthday present. Yeah, I'll be 22 years old :P I just managed to get a pretty well paying job right out of school

Although I don't want a car 'like everyone else's', I am happy when I see another '04 TL
on the road. They apparently are selling really well here in Pittsburgh, but I really don't
see that many.

There are two '03 TLs in my parking lot at work . . . but I have the only '04.

I am sick of people saying, not so much on this board, but in general "how can a 20 some year old afford a TL?"

I am 23 years old and went to school paying my way myself. At the same time I managed to graduate with two majors and a 3.8 GPA.

Now that I am graduated, I have become a financial advisor -- and also do personal training on the side.

That is how I can afford my TL.

I always have lived life on the suggestion of my father, rise above all and see what you want, once you have a clear vision of what you want for youself, it is easy to obtain.

Just my 2 cents and sorry to sound arrogant if I did, but I look at a lot of other 23 year olds and think to myself, "why can the NOT afford a TL?" It only takes hard work and unfortunately -- the majority of people in this world, young and old are lazy.

i feel your pain dude, i too went through college + a masters degree, all out of my own pocket, not to mention i had a full time job while i was at it! i was all done with school before i was 25. i am now 29 and if the current TL came out 4 years ago, i wouldve bought it then!

folks, take stroutman's advise, if you want to make something out of your life, better have a vision and work hard for it. i salute you stoutman and all those folks out there who make this country proud! :gheywave:

I'm with you too. I am 24 with a BS and MS in Computer Science and employed as a software engineer. I have maxed-out student loans, but I put myself through school, working 20 hours/week all throughout college. I now have 2 mortgages (house and rental property) and a TL (though I am somewhat strapped these days). My parents tought me great responsibility by NOT giving me everything I wanted, and that makes me much more proud of what I have.

Anyway, the original point that made me want to post here, I agree with the first post. I get a little upset when I see all the TLs because back in '02, I bought a brand-new XTerra. When I bought it, I liked it because it was unique. Now everywhere you look, there are tons of XTerras (at least in STL). That's one of the minor reasons I traded it in on the TL. There really arent many TLs in STL though (and definitely not in the parts I hang out).

The unspoken assumption behind this statement is that the >20-something people who are questioning why teens and low twenty-somethings own a TL don't have very very similar stories; many do. That particular work ethic wasn't born with the current generation.

If you own a TL, great, welcome to the forum. I don't need your life story (just like you don't need mine) and I don't really care how or if you afford it.

That said, I'll get back to the original topic of the thread. I think the original poster has some temper issues. Getting mad that other people drive the same mass-produced car you do? When you're a self-proclaimed "groupie" of a "club" of people who own the same color mass-produced car that you do?

Mike

If U wanted to be unique U should save up a couple years and buy a ferrari, lambo, maybach or some exotic car. hence the exotic. then I seriously doubt anyone within a 15 mile radius will have the same exact car as you, lol

Perhaps you were so busy studying you had no time to develop a SENSE OF HUMOR. I even put a next to my message. Really, I was just commenting on my own car frustration as a young man. Enjoy your TL and your very serious life.

When you buy a 60K-70K unit/year vehicle like the TL, you're going to see a few on the road. If you live in a fairly affluent area you'll see even more. If you buy one of the most popular colors (e.g., NBP) you'll see still more.

Why not just relax and enjoy your great car? Heck, even be happy for the other people who made such a wise decision.

i only get mad when i see a dirty TL. as a matter of fact i get mad seeing a nice car that's dirty or a nice car riced. that's the only time i get mad everytime i see another TL. it would just ruin my driving experience if i did.

i actually try to see who's driving the other TL. most i see though are < 40. i try to make eye contact and but they ignore. it's all good though. i used to get pissed when i see the same car on the road but now i look at it as i enjoy my car, i bet they are too. or i'll say that they have great taste in cars.

you guys just need to calm down coz if any of you saw each other on the road and reacted the same way, that actually maybe a funny site to see

check this:

Within a four house radius of where I live 3 homes have -04 TL's...I have the only blue one...but I think it drives home the point from above...I live in a affluent area so I see more TL's. I also see about 4-5 TL's on my way to work everyday. Does it bother me? Not really. I really love driving this car and I have fun talking to my neighbors about it.

Bottom line...if you want to be different go exotic or buy a kit car

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

There, some things I still do find amusing. And I most surely have fun each and everyday.

It seems that you have a habbit of judging people, very inacurate however, haha. Wow, another laugh -- maybe I should get your phone number so I can talk to you all the time -- seeing how you crack me up.

Joking or not in your first post, I was not lashing out on you what-so-ever. I was making a general comment stemming from your post about how I am sick of people assuming I was handed money to go out and buy a TL. I hope you are bright enough to understand where and why that stemmed from your post. Your post naturally leads into the frustration I have been encountering.

I hope other people on this board to not judge me now that I have taken place in some childish arguments. I really do love this board and usually only use it for technical questions. Actually, this is the first time I have posted on a personal level. I know it happens often in here, and it actually makes for some good reading, but I do not play part in it. Thanks to everyone who has been able to help me w/ my past questions.

I wouldn't say that I really have temper issues, I just find it annoying that I've been seeing so many lately. Also the groupie of the club thing is purely a joke because their site is so lame.

Ok, we'll put an end to this...just one clarification: I wondered in my original comment how so many 20-something people on this forum could afford a TL.. not for one second was I judging or thinking that you or anyone here was handed money... actually, I sort of assumed that leasing made most cars affordable these days...plus, I thought perhaps people your age don't have kids and therefore can afford lots of things. Maybe it was your use of "sick of" that propelled me to further respond... in my original comment, I felt curiosity and not hostility... anyway... truly.. enjoy your TL

Hahahahahahahaha!!!!! -- AGAIN

If you want to get technical about the intentions behind the ridiculous comments we have been exchanging -- which I am begining to realize is a waste of time and finger use -- I will say this:

I merely used your post to talk about my experiences -- no where did I mention your name. I said I was sick of "people....."

So you can disregard that part of my post -- as obviously, if we are getting technical behind the true english meanings of our posts, was not directed towards you.

The rest of the post is the answer to you question of how can young folks afford the car.
That should about wrap things up.

Thanks for you time

I’m 23, and I’m with you. difference are I m still in the god damn college, and I can't dream to have 3.8 gpa.
I bought my TL, not on loan, not lease, I paid cash at once. I work part time. I don’t have to feed a family, so I can afford to buy a TL. What’s wrong with that?
