Ordering your car out of state

Has anyone ever ordered a car from another state and have it delivered right to your doorstep?

Are there certain things to watch out for? I was thinking about ordering a car from Cleveland, OH delivered to the DC area.

Example :

Before buying a car, you can test drive it and check for scratches and dings. Whereas, if it's delivered, you can't do all of that. Am I just being paranoid?

I ordered my car out of state, but didn't have it delivered. It was much cheaper for me to fly out and drive it back.

I really wouldn't worry about it that much. If the dealer delivers it, look it over and drive it before you sign the papers and accept delivery. If there are any problems, refuse delivery. If it is sent by a shipping company, document any external damage and have the driver sign off on its condition. They should have insurance which should cover repairs and if they won't do it, refuse delivery. Any driving problems should be under warrenty that any dealer can fix them. Despite what is written on this forum, my TL hasn't had any problems at all.

All in all, I enjoyed my drive home in the new car and got most of the breakin done. It was a pleasant Saturday.

I hope you are able to work it out and enjoy a new TL!!!!

buying out of state

I bought a Toyota Camry out of state some years ago. I paid for the delivery charge with a credit card, but not the car until after I test drove it & accepted it. If you have a fax with the charges & equipment you have ordered & only accept the car if it meets the specs you ordered. They don't want to ship a car across states that will be rejected & sent back to them.

BTW, if you're ordering from Acura of Cleveland, consider flying Southwest from BWI to Cleveland & driving back your car. The dealer is near the airport & Southwest flies very cheap one-way.

Cleveland Acura has sold to many out of state forum members. People have picked them up and had them delivered. They will work with you.

Very easy to do (depending on the state,of course). I live in New Orleans and bought my car from Montgomeryville Acura (PA). Flew to PHL, dealer picked me up, inspected and test drove car. Paid Car and TTL (collected taxes for Louisianna and gave me a check back to me for the full amount of taxes made out to DMV / LA). Drove it back to New Orleans, about 1200 miles and 21 hours. Listen to XM all the way home. Just be careful to obeserve break-in requirements. I did not use cruise control, kept speed under 65mph and light braking. See Road Rage comments, http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88638. Total cost including gas, food and 1 night hotel $151. cost to ship was $625. Depending on the deal you get when you buy, it may be woth it.

I probally had my car delivered the furthest distance. I live in Arizona and purchased in Florida. I discussed and negotiated everything over the phone. When my car finally arrived at the dealership, they overnighted the paperwork, I looked over signed and sent back. Then the car was delivered to me 2 weeks later. The main thing is just to look out for any damages during shipping but the drivers for these companies are usually pretty experienced and so they will make sure that the car arrives in good condition. My car left Florida during all the hurricanes, drove here for many miles and I did not even find one chip on it. I think generally it is a pretty safe procedure if you can save some money. And the great part was it arrived with only 6 miles on it. Good luck!
