On Order

I put a deposit down in November for a late Feb delivery. After reading many posts touting lower prices, I am now thinking about getting my deposit back if the dealer insists on charging MSRP.

Just looking for some opinions.

If it is a non-Nav model, I would definitely ask them to move some on the price.

Yeah, I would agree, if it's a Non-Navi, folks are getting upwards to $1,700 off on 5AT's and upwards to $1,400 off on 6MT's in my area. If yours is a Non-Navi 5AT, these are sitting on lots just waiting to be snatched up. From my experience, 6MT's are a bit tougher to come by but still able to be located and a discount to be had. As for the Navi's, very few people are getting huge discounts on the Navi's, if any discount at all.

If you have a repore with your salesman, I would call him up and say that you can go down the road and buy the same car for a $X,XXX discount and will do so and demand your deposit back if they won't match the deal.

My guess is that since you've waited this long that the car is probably a Navi unit which means you should just be happy to have one that's yours coming, IMO.

Thanks Tripp,

Mine is Red/Ebony/Navi so I guess I should be happy because I haven't even seen that color combination in non-nav available on lots in my area. I guess I'm just envious of the deals others on this forum are supposedly getting on navi cars.

did you enter into a contract?
is there a car on order for you?
i suspect it will be hard for you to get your $ back.

I think these "deals" are all based on the region of the sale. It seems as if East Coasters have it pretty good with dealers discounting the Navi units.

Every dealer here in the midwest is barely moving off of sticker on the Navi TL's here.

I have no idea what the market demand is out in WA but my advice would be if it's the car/color/combo you want, stick with it and then try to wiggle/haggle a bit when your car comes in. If you "act" like you might walk and take your deposit with you, then they might throw some freebies in or knock a bit off.

I would be happy with the exact car in a Navi though....that's just me.

I signed a contract with a delivery date of Dec 18, but they couldn't make that happen so in my book there is no contract. I have asked a lawyer friend of mine if these deposits are really"non-refundable", and he said that at least in Washington, there is no way that they can keep your money if you do not want the car. Just another line of dealer B.S. if you ask me.

FWIW - This is straight from my salesman

"Even if you sign something stating that the deposit is non-refundable, you can demand it back at anytime and you'll get it"

He told me this when I asked about their policy on deposits. He said yes, it's refundable and then added the above statement.

As tripp11 said, I was able to order a 6 Sp/Nav and got $1395 off MSRP. I ordered it from Acura of Boston and I have heard through the gravevine, that they are notorious for not giving deposits back. They wrote right on the paperwork that they would have the car for me between 12/15 and 1/31 or they would refund my money. I didn't mind giving them the deposit ($1000) because no one else in the area could come close, but started to wonder whether or not prices would fall while I was waiting.
In any event, my car is supposed to be built on 1/14 and will be delivered by the end of the month. So for me things worked out.
If I were in your shoes, I would look at the paperwork you have and see what if anything it says in regard to the deposit and go from there.

Good luck,

Rob

Question Pricing

I recently signed a deal for a NAVI which is due in or on Feb 15 from Rallye Acura in Roslyn, N.Y. Usually there are more expensive but they were on the ball and new all the pricing in the tristate area as I checked them all out. You can easily go in and renegotiate your deal, or just cancel it and make a new deal. Now way should you pay MSRP on either model.

well a purchase contract is a purchase contract, so i don't know about walking and demanding your deposit back w/ no problems. in your case though, you're right. they haven't delivered, so get your money back before they get your car in to avoid hassle from them.
