one start is where one you turn the key, they key does not need to be held, the car will continue to crank until the motor turns, Ifit does not turn whiting 8 seconds, a waringin light sill be displaed, indicating a proble m with the system.

Is this feature on the 2007 Acura TL (non-Type-S)? Also, is it mentioned anywhere on Acura.com?

Yes, it's standard on the base TL as well.

I would honestly rather crank it myself.
Gives me the the feeling of control.
But im weird.

Anyway, I still dont get it clearly..

I put the key in, put it into acc mode, and it does the rest?
OR
I put the key in, put it no acc mode, then crank it once, and it does the rest..

This REALLY doesnt matter, but I was just very curious.

I think you just turn it to the "start" position momentarily and it does the rest. That's how it is on my father's Benz, so I assume it's the same.

Does this prevent starter grinding if the car is already running?

No. I have bought my type s The day it came out(almost two months ago) . I just found out last week From my salesman it did not have one touch start or paddle shifters whicj i saw for myself. One touch start would not have been why I bought the TL-S, trust me

I thought all 2007 AT Type S cars had paddle shifters.

Honda marketing?

One touch in Acura terms means that ONCE you turn the key once, you don't have to do it again as the car itself will continue to turn over the engine FOR YOU. This is NOT the same thing as "push to start or one-button start" or any of the more advanced systems on the market today where you carry a credit card "key" in your pocket and the car "senses" you (by reading the card) and (1) Unlocks the door when you touch the handle or (2) Starts the car when you push a button on the shifter/steering wheel, etc)

BMW, Mercedes and even Lexus implemented the "one turn Start" a good 5 years back or so and it's been on every car I owned "until this 2004 TL" IMHO Acura is once again simply playing catching up with the other higher-branded versions of the std mfg. Honda is just being a little misleading hope that the general public who doesn't know any better will simply think "OK, Cool! I can get the same auto-start/ one-button start, etc on the Accura that I can get on the newer BMW, Benz and Lexus's" when in fact you cannot. There is no "ONE BUTTON START" ON ACURA cars.

It's been out for a while longer than that. Our old '98 Toyota Land Cruiser had that feature as well.

If a salesman tries to bs me, I just ask for the owners manual and look up and point out the things I just asked about that they did not know. While one cannot expect the sales team to know every detail of every car, it would be nice to think they had a basic understanding of the systems!

Honda's had the one touch in the S2000 for ... well, since it's debut.... I wish they'd implemented that in the Acura lineup from that point onward as well

The 2006 G35 w/ intelligent key is weird...
1) you can keep the key anywhere in your purse/pocket/etc and just turn a crank on the steering column...
2) but .. you have to hold it in ON until the engine turns over... i figure at LEAST they would have made that one touch as well

One touch = turn the key and the car starts to crank, it will continue even if you just turn the key momentarily and release it. My four year old Chevy truck does this, but my '07 TL-S does NOT.

Its wierd how quickly you get used to it. It saves like 2 seconds where you can be reaching for your seat belt (or whatever your pre-driving routine is) while the car finishes starting.

I thought it was lame when we first got our 2006 Toyota Tundra that has auto-start. Now I really like it and I find myself tapping the key in the 2004 acura as if it would do the same.....habit I guess.

Old fashioned "turn the key and hold it 'til the engine fires." Let go early and it stops cranking.

At the moment the car is bone stock - I'll run it for a while and make sure there are no infant mortality issues before I start tinkering with it.

Something wrong with your car? My TL always starts the very first try. Heck, even my 8 year old pontiac starts the first try in < 1 second.

As for the safety aspect.... Preventing starter grind is different, and doesn't need this kind of stuff... My 8 year old pontiac has starter grind protection. It won't engage the starter solenoid if the engine is already running. Likewise, if you stick it in reverse while you are moving forward over a certain speed, the ECU will intervene and prevent the shift.
