One Tail Light Brighter Than The Other

Just noticed this yesterday.

Got out upon pulling into my garage leaving the engine running for the attendant to park it and forgot to turn off the headlights. Walking away from the car I realized I left something on the passenger seat. Upon turning around, I discovered the driver's side tail light about ½ the brightness of the passenger's side. It's the same when you flash the lights locking or unlocking with the fob. However, both lights are the same regular high brightness when you hit the brakes.

I'll have the dealer check it out when I take it in for the 1st oil change in a few weeks.

I had a similar problem with my 1995 NSX's taillights, and I pulled half the interior apart (talk about sweaty palms) until I found a loose connection at the wiring harness off-feed to the tl's. Japanese assembly quality was seriously questioned to the Heavens that day, lwt me tell you. The loose connection was causing a voltage drop on one side. They were incandescent bulbs.

I am sure you have either a difference in voltage side to side, or a defective LED pack. But I find it confusing that you say they are the same when you hit the brake, only one is dimmer at "light idle". That has me stumped, although either you cannot tell the difference, or there is a weak bunch of LED's that snap to it when serious juiced. I would take a DVOM and back probe the lights to check idle voltage (no load) on either side, and then full voltage when brakes applied. Ask the dealer to do that before they go ahead and replace it, because they will likely have to order the part, and if it is the voltage, you will wait, bring the car in, have it replaced, they won't check to see if it is right, they will return the car toyou, and you will be posting "I'm so pissed".

I looked at the schematic to see if there is a padding resistor in series but there is not.

Good luck.

As this has been discussed, it's either slightly different light packs or an optical illusion (not standing perfectly centered behind the car).
