Is it okay to remove the front licence plate?
I've been looking through people's TL and I noticed that most of them removed their front license plate.
Is that alright?
I'm pretty sure cops would pull you over.

In NJ you are supposed to have both front and back plates. I have seen many vehicles with only one plate. You take the chance but I know when the car gets it state inspection you will have to have the front plate on.

California requires front plates, but it's only enforced usually if they stop you for another infraction. As far as I've experienced, a front plate is not required to pass the bi-annual state smog inspection.

It can happen. If it's against the vehicle code in that state, then law enforcement has every right to cite the registered owner for this infraction. Your mom just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Same here in IL. Front plate is required but you will likely be fine without one. I have never had one on my TL and no issues. Same thing with my Corvettes no plates and never hassled. It looks a LOT nicer without it.

Here in LA, parking enforcement WILL write you a ticket for not having a front plate, even if you're parked at a meter that's not expired...meaning they can cite you without you even being at your car.
Although keeping my front plate on my dash stops them from doing so.

My wife's car was ticketed for no front plate when it was parked in unrestricted, unmetered street parking in front of our house.

I got a front plate ticket while parked in SF. 100 bucks. Only reason I got out of it was b/c some jackass backed into me a few hours earlier and damaged the screws. And the fact the cop forgot to sign the ticket. It isn't worth it to keep it off the car.

Around here (Missouri), not at all. You will get lit up so fast. I love when I drive a car with temp tags because cops are always flipping U-turns and pulling out behind me real fast thinking they've got me only to find out I have a valid temp tag.
I guess it really depends on your area though.

CA and other states that require front plate are cracking down on it-
its even a primary offense- like seatbelt use and front door tints, they can stop you just for that!
They want to know the front plate matches the rear - many stolen cars are running stolen plates off another car,,,maybe someone took yours and you dont know
The officer needs to know if thats happened. Better than them looking for you for a robbery!
If you say you removed it to detail the car and forgot to put it back on `but you do have it`- its usually a fix it ticket
Putting rear plate in rear window is also asking to be stopped- criminals do that for quick change of identity
Placing front plate on dash encourages crooks to break in and steal it!!

That said, I do push my luck in MO - I have and have had lots of cars without front plates, depending on the car it just looks so ass with a front plate, I'm willing to chance it. The older you get, the less you get hassled anyway

Texas requires both front and rear plates on the car. Depending on the officer, you can get off with a warning, a fix it ticket, or they could just be a plain dick and give you a regular ticket and make you pay $90 like me. :thumbsdow

I've lived in both Oregon and California where its definitely illegal to remove your front plate. I don't think I can count how many times I've got a ticket for no front license plate. I'm probably up to 5 or 6 violations. Usually happens every 3 or 4 years. My last infraction was about 6 months ago. The pain in the ass part was that my mounting bracket was in storage and I couldn't find it. I had to zip tie the plate to the bumper, but it worked for getting it signed off.
I think I'm done for a while now. As soon as I can get to my mounting bracket I'll put the plate back on.

I know that Florida does NOT require a front license plate. All the cars you see driving around do not have them and you can tell they came that way from the dealer as they did not have to drill the holes for mounting.

That's not what they're doing - they are doing that BECAUSE of the temp tag - there are so many fake or doctored temp tags it's not even funny.

That said I rarely ever park on the street. I think parking enforcement are more likely to be dicks about it than a police officer. Parking enforcement are the worst, way worse than cops when it comes to writing you up for something.
