Front Plate relocation to OEM tow hook

After deciding that the cost outweighs any possible hassles, I decided to purchase and install the RHO-PLATE front plate adapter for the TL.

here is what it looks like on their sample car:

And here are pics I took tonight to give a better idea what it looks like. the japanese plate is there to just block my license plate (too lazy to photoshop it out).

in all, it took exactly one week to arrive via regular postage (their only option). the tracking info doesnt work, it just tells you it shipped, and you just have to wait it out.

looks just like the pics on their website... Does it seem sturdy, or does it wobble a good amount?

pretty sturdy. i tried forcing it to twist by hand. but once you get the main shaft onto the tow hook assembly, its not going anywhere.

total install time took about 5 mins. i did it at work as soon as i got the package.

you will need the factory lug nut wrench (yes the one in the trunk along with the OEM jack). thats the only size that will let you screw the main shaft onto the tow hook assembly. after you have that in tight, the rest is a piece of cake. the frame itself doesnt budge when you push on it, so im not even worried it will scratch the bumper.

Easy to remove too? I need to run a front plate but need to take it out for car shows.

Do you have a link to thier site?

it should be. you just unbolt the plate and unscrew the bracket. i put some threadlocker on mine but without it, it should be relatively easy.

Nice alternative to the plate being in the center. Looks good IMO.

^ Totally uderstand the pain, thus my hesitation, I know the moment I'll remove the license frame I'll be biting my lip in anger, and another thing, spending $70 on a bolt...

its quite a lot of turns, but thats why I put threadlocker on it. then again, the factory plate frame is just a simple tug and you're done.

I like the idea also by using the tow hook....but $70 for a holder?
I put mine on the other side as I was told by others that some cops would give you hassle for having it on the passenger side (due to not seeing it AS clear from the on coming traffic)....
Mine costed me not more than $5.

but I still like this idea, I'd consider it if the price was a little lower.

i went through a couple touch-free car washes and this thing doesnt even budge. you can aim a pressure washer on it and it will barely move.

well, the point is to re-locate your plate so you can see "Acura" where the plate used to be making the car look better...

Anyone had this though a regular car wash? I should be using touchless, but I don't...

personally I dont want a front plate but the hassle is just not worth it for me.

my previous cars never had a front plate ever. but with the CA gov't in the sh*ts and them charging dmv fees up the wazooo, little fees like no front plates is just going to get more expensive and annoying.

with this on, there wont be any reason to be stopped for anything.

Personally, I think putting the plate on the tow hook looks retarded. Even though Illinois requires a front plate, I run without one and have never been stopped. I keep it in the trunk just in case.

nope. I know a few people that still got the fix it ticket with the plate in plain sight over the dash. it doesnt matter.

like I said, Im no fan of the front plate. my first three cars all didnt have front plates and Ive never been stopped. As busy as I am though with work every day, a fix it ticket is really much more of a hassle I just cannot justify.

mounting the plate on the stock location wasnt good enough (one pressure wash and it went off). the tow hook location is sturdy enough and is quite decent actually, then again, its subjective. people are mixed with this location, and frankly I couldnt care. in the end of the day, it wont be you who would get stopped for a no-front plate, it would be me. with this in place, that's never going to happen.

$2 + tax

That is what I spent for this mod. Got a long enough screw/bolt the same size as the tow hook.

- thanks to sixsix for the idea.

I used the front plastic (OEM) mount. Modified the square hole to make it bigger and fit the head of the screw. Make the hole a little smaller than the screw so it would not move and just tighten it so that the mount will be flush with the bumper.

Shit and im a sucker , i got that holder from them and i don't like the ideal that i have to mount it on the passenger side.

did you have to drill a hole in your front bumper to do that ?

mssidah,

mine is in the same location as sixsixfour...on the OEM tow hook. The difference is that I spent less the $3 for it. No drilling, you just need to remove the round plastic thing in your bumper for your tow hook. The only "modification I did aside from the relocation was making the hole bigger on the plastic license plate mount (which I am not worried to destroy, I think I got it for $12 from the dealer). I don't have a big enough bit to use so I slowly shaved the plastic just enough so that the screw/bolt is still "stuck" on the mount. I did this for thing not to move a lot. Given that it has moved slightly since my install a month ago.
Fix: just rearrange it - it is still very stable.

you can check how it looks on my other recent post.

Still no answer to my question. I will try one more time...

Anyone had this through a normal car wash? not a touchless? Carwash that I frequent isnt touchless.

I'm still confused as to why people would want to do this? I understand trying to think of different things to do to the car, but this is a step backwards. Are we trying to make our cars look as bad as the 4th gen front?
