OK to let Firestone or STS install synchromesh ?

My normal mechanic is pretty far away. I have the magic GM synchromesh and was going to bring it to the local STS to have them install (or firestone). Is this pretty straightforward ? I have nowhere to work on my car like that.

if you must, but i'd watch them every step of the way.

2.3L = 2q + ~300ml (just under).

Yeah, personally I'd stay away from service chains. Too many horror stories of mistakes and pushing extra services, like air filters, coolant flushes and the like. Since you're putting in a non-Honda fluid, you probably won't have much luck at an Acura/Honda dealer. To me it'd be worth the extra time and hassle to take it to a trusted, indie mechanic. The reduced risk of BS is priceless.

Just a warning. Make certain that whoever does the job removes 3 plugs, 1 for drain, 1 for fill, 1 for level. Shops that aren't knowledgeable will remove 1 drain, 1 fill and the trans will be overfilled.
When our RX7 Turbo was new and under warranty, the dealership did a drain and fill but didn't remove the fill to plug and on the drive home, because of the pressure, blew fluid out the rear trans seal.

I'd be okay taking it to STS or Firestone. Just make sure it's not the after school special working there. Also, point out that they can use a universal joint ratchet to get at the fill plug without removing the air intake and battery. That said, also make sure they charge you for actual time, not the service manual time.

I understand you dont have a place or possibly tools to do the job yourself, but I would NEVER let a place like firestone work on my car...helllllll no. Its a simple job on this car but they will find a way to mess it up. Strip out the aluminum bolts, cross thread them, break them, overfill or under fill the tranny...you name it, they will somehow do it. If you 100% cant do it yourself I would recommend maybe finding a family owned mechanic shop that will let you hang around while he does the work and just watch, or even talk to him about it while he does it. Some shops are cool like that.

Goodluck....Oh and BTW, the fluid really is magic..I did mine the other day and the results were instant!
