Oil question

My dealor recommends every 3750 miles. I'm about 3,800 and the useful life is at 60%. Acura.com has no maintenance information. From reading the the various forums, I take it I'll get a message when oil gets to 15% which should be around 7K. My question is, should one wait that long for the first change.

some say the oil from the factory has an additive that helps during the break in period,I'd say maybe wait..............But use your better judgement

Yes there is an additive. No, you should probably change it before 4000 miles regardless of what your MID tells you.

I did mine at 3500K with 60% life in my RL. I will never keep oil in my car for 10K miles. I did same for mine 2-nd car, 04 TL and 60K miles later no problems at all. www.bobistheoilguy.com

I did my first change at 4000 miles. Thereafter, generally went by the MID, but no longer intervals than 5000 miles. Havoline 5W-20 oil with a Purolater filter would be good choices.

Does the MID only tell you when it is at 15%?? What else will it tell you to do except changing the oil?

He's on vacation from this forum since a few members gave him a hard time, but also because of the repetitiveness of technical topics on this forum.

Changing it per the MID is fine (won't hurt the engine), but its probably a good idea to change it before 5000 for the first time to remove the increased wear metals from break-in.

MID will base the interval for other items off of the determined drain intervals for oil. But some items, such as transmission fluid, I would suggest changing more frequently, such as every 15,000 miles, given how "hard" Honda transmissions are on fluid and their troublesome reliability history.
