Is this oil crap?
lol this discussion starting to getting out of hand, I remember days where TL was bought for $22k-$30 instead of $3.5k-$10k and we didn't have such a childish conversation. After all its your car use whatever you like....
This is one of those threads that should have started with the same title as the back page of MAD magazine does every month.
"HERE WE GO WITH ANOTHER RIDICULOUS MAD FOLD IN"
I've made it to 265K using ONLY synthetic 5W-20 and 1st quality oil filters

Alright well after this fiasco, I decided to just go to walmart yesterday and get Mobil one full synthetic 5w-20....and now, with a big thanks to nfnsquared, I'm eligible for the $12 rebate when I mail my receipt in because it was on the last day of May. I guess I'll pass off my dino oil off to somebody else for free (like how I received it in the first place! haha)
M1 has run pretty much that same rebate at least once/quarter. There will be another rebate within your MID interval
You can get SuperTech synthetic 5w20 for less than $18 anytime at WalMart. And M1 5w20 is only $22.88 at WalMart through Oct 31.

I'm just curious; when folks opt for synthetic oil, regardless of whether it is Mobil 1, Castrol, Pennzoil, or any other brand for that matter, why do you stay with the 5W-20 grade when for the same money you can buy 0W-20 which is equal to or better than 5W-20 in literally every aspect?
I run the 0w20 if it's on sale. SuperTech doesn't make 0w20 (at least WalMart didn't carry it at the time), so I bought 2 years worth of the 5w20 when it was on sale for $8.61. Not really sure about your "or better than 5w20 in every respect" statement though....
Same high temperature performance under load, superior cold start flow characteristics (where most engine wear happens).

I would definitely opt for 0W20.
Its the year 2017.
Here is a semi-relevant story:
I once used 80W90 gear oil that had been sitting in a non climate controlled environment for 10 years (well...10 + 65 million) in a dirt track honda civic HX which had 198K miles on it.
Me and my friends then spent a full day lapping this car for fastest time. My time was abysmal because I went for massive style. So in anger, I lapped the entire course twice in 1st gear. Banging off the rev limiter. The car protested...but...I was the boss. I think ambient temp was like 85F.
It started rod knocking like a MF.
If I would have just used Mobil1 synthetic...that motor would still live on today.

DO NOT REPRODUCE
Mr. Yung forgot that you can search his post / thread history. If you did look into his history, you'd see that he is the perfect example of someone who put in the bare minimum of work and or money and expect long term reliability.
Sounds about right.

It is more important to change your oil on a regular basis than it is what type/brand of oil. If I chose to use cheapo Dino oil in my car, I would not expect it to make it to 10,000 miles between changes. I would have no issues buying a car from someone who used cheap oil every 3k miles or from someone who used fancy oil every 10k+ miles truthfully. As long as the maintenance is being done properly when needed...who cares. I don't even have a clue what type of oil is even in my TL. It is what ever the dealer puts in there when my MID lights up and I drop it off for an oil change. And yes....I treat my car like my toaster. I use it, I clean it, and I expect it to work. I think my toaster may get cleaned more often than my car does.
