Oil change turned into a new front Bumper

I took my 2006 TL into Acura of Brookfield to have a simple Oil change and some other minor things taken care of. I was not sure if they would give me a loaner to use while they worked on my car since I did not purchase my car there...but to my surprise and delight they did offer up a car of my choice.

I got a call around noon today telling me a technician was pulling out of the service garage and slide on snow\ice into the front end of my car. The bumper now has a hole in it and some scratches. Just my luck!

We are currently getting 4-6 inches of snow so I do realize it is pretty bad out right now...but it just sucks. I guess if your car is going to be in an accident who better to cause the accident than the dealer.

Sorry for the pointless thread...just venting.

If possible, I'd wait until winter is over to cash in on this. Wouldnt want the winter salt/sand to ravage your brand new paint!

I'm hoping the dealer just fixes it, and your insurance doesn't have to get involved!

Had that happen once to a brand new Trans Am. It was at the service department a lot in those days, to have put back on whatever had recently fallen off (don't complain to me about build quality), and the service manager himself ran into it with another car. Then the dealer body shop messed up the repair and had to do it over again.

There might be a silver lining here, though. After they get the color matched to your satisfaction consider putting a clear bra over that new paint.

I did get the 09 AWD TL as a loaner. Sitting in my garage right now. And to be completely honest I prefer my 3g over this new body style inside and out.

The dealership is covering it. No insurance involved. I made sure of that. I don't want this affecting me if I decide to sell the car at some point.

I just drove by the dealership tonight and saw the damage. It's not terrible but bad enough that i'm not driving it all ghetto around town. I can't stand people that buy nice cars, get in accidents, and then leave dents, scratches and other problems on their car.

I take that back...it is not the SH-AWD loaner. Just a regular 09 TL.

Wow horror story..

Luckily for me i have a spot to do oil changes, so one less time someone else gets to have my car.

If someone had to hit my car, you scenario doesn't sound bad. Loaner of you choice, and nothing on the record. Those people who drive nice cars, get in accidents, and leave dents/problems obviously didn't have full coverage.

Definitely a buzz killing phone call to get, but good circumstances for an accident.

This isn't all bad. When I bought the car it had a slight scuff on the front bumper...so this resolves that problem!

I agree with you dude, i got a white 09 TL tech for a loaner today and the car is not all that great compared to the 3G. It is more quieter though, but I would rather upgrade to a Type S instead. But anways sorry to thread jack. At least they admit it, and dont let you drive home and you finding out the next morning.

I say be happy if the dealer is honest and is doing the right thing, which in your case seems to be happening. I am always more willing to put up with f ups and inconveniences as long as the people are nice and honest.

Wow! That bites. At least it's the dealer that did it and they admit to it. Are they going to give you a whole new bumper? Or repair the damaged one?

I am very happy that they are taking care of the situation and really have no complaints about how it's handled. My only complaint is that my car previously was never in an accident. But like I said before...it couldn't have happened at a better place. And I certainly appreciate their honesty.

Yeah I thanked the guy for telling me. They could have easily said there was something else that needed to be taken care of and replacled the bumper without me knowing...but they boned up to it and came clean.

The guy said they are going to put a new skin on it. I don't know what that means. Is that a new bumper? Or what? Anyone know?

I would take a real close look at the car and make sure that there is no other damage anywhere. They could be honest about the bumper but not telling you about some other damage. Make sure everything is right before you take the car back.

Usually when they say "skin", it means the outer shell of a door or rear quarter panel. Maybe he is simply referring to the bumper cover and not the actual bumper. I'd ask to make sure they aren't putting thin piece of plastic over the hole and spraying over that.

Acura of Brookfield (if its the one in WI) is a good dealer. Their service dept is top notch. So is Zimbrick in Middleton

I hear ya. On top of that I am going to have the dealership write up something saying they replaced my bumper...or whatever they did. My fear would be in 2 months the paint starts to bubble and when i take it back to them they say it's not our problem.

That is the first thing I thought of as well when they said Skin. So I'm not sure what was replaced but I will find out when I pick up the car.

It is the one in Wisconsin. I bought my car from Zimbrick and have nothing but praises for them. They were fantastic. I wish I could use their service dept...but they are about 45 minutes from me...where Acura of Brookfield is 5 minutes down the road.

I can't speak for Brookfield's service as of yet. But i'll draw a conclusion based on their work on the bumper.

just as a tip, take a few photos of the old bumper including of the VIN sticker on the bumper and a letter stating what happened. When you go to sell the car the incident will probably affect resale or potential sales. This shows that the real damage and helps buyers make a good choice.

Same shit happened to me when the car was a month old, only it wasn't a snow/ice situation. Curry Acura just swapped my front bumper cover with one from another new car sitting on the lot.
