Floor Mat Locking Clips - Is there an easy way to attach mats?
Is it me, or is it more difficult than it should be to remove the driver's side floor mat from the clip and reattach it?
Recently, I picked up some OEM All Season Mats, and it was even more difficult to attach than the carpet mat.
I moved the seat all the way back, then pressed hard where the hole and the top of the clip meet, forcing the clip thru the hole.
I was wondering if there was any trick to it or what people do to make this easier.

You have to bend the mat towards the little lip on the clip. If you try to take it off straight up it wont work. Curve it all to the clip and then just slide it over. It's alil tight but thats the easiest way.

Burning Brakes
They just suck. I spill the dirt all over the carpet every time I take mine out. Kind of defeats the purpose. Maybe cut the horizontal part of the hooks so that they are not so long?

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I see I'm not alone in not liking the clip design. I wonder if they're the same in the '09? (Still prefer my '08 though.)
All they had to do was move the holes closer to the end of the mat. Then you'd be able to put the edge of the mat vertical to the floor and slide the holes over the clips.

I just installed my winter mats and install was easy , you have to make sure the hole is lined up good and just push down the hooks bend a little bit . I didn't have to take anything out though , cause the car didn't have any mats in it .

Die clip, die!
Yes, cut them! I did just that and I feel so much better now. Thanks, Mug and Kracker.
Don't cut the whole post, just some of the top part so it looks more like an "I" and not an upside down "L". This way you can still use the posts to keep the mat secure.
While I agree that the mat is not likely to move around if you leave it disconnected, attaching it is safer and allows the mat to sit closer to the floor.

Glad I found this thread (kind of an odd place for a first post, but when you're looking for a solution to a problem....). I've been in read-only mode for a few months since getting our TL.
My wife tried to install the Acura winter mats in her 08 TL today, said it was impossible to get the holes in the mats over the floor clips. I assumed it was similar in design to the posts on my RSX, which are straight, making it easy to install the RSX winter mats. But no, somebody at Acura decided making the post look like an upside down "J" was a good idea. There's no way the winter mats are flexible enough to fit over those hooks.
For the time being I'll leave the mats positioned on top of the hooks. Will more than likely elongate the holes in the mats this weekend.
This is my wife's TL and she's loving it. This is our fifth Honda vehicle and yes, we currently own three Acuras.

The NSX runs great, it's a garage queen w/ 41K miles and just about ready to be put away for a winter nap. I don't want to derail this thread w/ NSX info, but some pics are over on NSXprime in:

If I get a chance I'll add some info to the NSX subforum within AcuraZine.
