Oil change question

Since I got my 05 TL I've changed my oil roughly every 3months. I usually don't wait for the reminder but change it every 3months regardless of the level. My question is how low can the oil be, I'm over 3months since the last oil change but monitor is reading 40%, before another oil change?

Thanks

do you reset the reminder? i used to reset it every oil change then got super lazy and just let it go.

are you talking about the oil level or the percentage of estimated oil life left?

You seem to be thinking that the oil monitor is telling you the oil level is low. ??
It's telling you, by the computer's algorithm, that the oil is 60% "worn out" when it reads 40%. That's calculated from the last time the monitor was reset, which doesn't necessarily match when the oil was last changed, especially if you changed it yourself.

I get it changed at the dealer. They reset it for me. I guess it's the computer algorithm, the way I read it when it says 40%, is that 40% oil remains or oil life left. When is it appropriate to get it changed; below what estimated oil life left?

It means 40% oil life is left (as previouly stated). If you follow the MID, you'll get the message "Service Due Soon" at 15% along with the maintenance items required, i.e. A/B12345. At 5% oil life left, you'll see "Service Due Now". If the service is not done and the service life is less than 0%, the MID will display message "Service Past Due". This info is in the owners manual.
