Oil Change coming up soon
So I have been searching on the forums and I just can't seem to find what is the best oil and filter to use. I do see people are using synthetic oil, should i change to synthetic?

You'll find most people on this site do use a quality synthetic oil. I have an '05 manual and an '05 automatic TL and I use Mobil 1 oil and filter in both.

FWIW- I changed my own oil last time, and used the Mobil 1 filter and oil...last week I was do again, and due to lack of time, I decided to go to the dealership and have them perform the oil change. While the tech was doing it, I went back there, under the car and all, and started talking to him (super cool dude) and asked him his thoughts on the different types of oil, filter. He said that the BEST type of filter to use IS THE OEM Honda oil filter due to the spring it has in it to help prevent cold starts ect...also, zero perfomance gains are expected by any other oil filter, oil choices. So....for what its worth, looks like I will stay with OEM for the oil, oil filter- and....paying $32.00, having the car jacked all the way up, walking under it.....talking with the tech the whole time...worth it in my book- GL

^same here. i use mobil 1 synthetic 5w20 with oil filter M-110. I believe you can also use M-104. Some members on Azine change the oil filter half way through its oil life when the MID is at 50%. Some other members uses that purple stuff and amsoil....i use mobil 1 since its readily available. changed my oil past september and i'm now at 50%...

that spring is part of the anti drain-back valve and is on any quality oil filter to keep oil in the filter when parked, and not drain back into the engine
So on cold start there is oil ready to go --not like when you change the oil and its 10 seconds before the oil pressure light goes out~
if you use M1 oil get the Extended Performance/High Mileage formula
thats the old style M1 with a new name and regular M1 is lower quality base oil
A great filter is worth the extra dollars for peace of mind and abilty to catch crud
learn about Seafoam and run some in the oil before next change

I use Motorcraft 5/20 Synthetic Blend and Walmart 7317 filter. Cost is around $14. My car is a lease though otherwise I'd probably go with a full synthetic. I stick to the MID for frequency.

I am an avid fan of synthetic oils just because it's cheap insurance. I use Mobil 1 0W-20 and the Mobil1 M110 in both my '05 TL and my '09 Honda Pilot during the winter. In summer I usually switch to 5W-20. My last TL was a '98 and ran perfect using only Mobil1 5W-30 and the Honda Oil filter. It got to 190K miles and still ran like it was new.

This Motorcraft oil is very highly rated according to one of our previous members.

Well, guess I'm in the minority. I use any good non-synthetic oil (except Pennzoil/Quaker State/Kendall) and at 88k miles, the oil still isn't black after 4000 miles (my personal change point). As to filters, I try stay away from "Orange death" when possible, but doubt it really matters. I do add some oil to the filter before I install it. Again, doubt it really matters, but might as well try to minimize the "oil startup lag" after a change...

Thanks - good to know. I can get 5 quarts of it at Walmart for the same price as a good quality Dino oil. Planning on another change this weekend if it ever decides to warm up down here!
