Oil Change Blues - Help

I took my new TL to Midas this morning for its first oil change. I have less then 4,000 miles on the car - in an attempt to reset the oil life digital readout to 100% the did something else. The dashboard now says service needed A. and a little envelope with a number 1 next to it appears like I have to email...or something.

Can someone tell me how to reset this so the email thing goes away, the oil life counter returns to 100 and the car no longer says service needed?

Thanks,
Mike

weren't you suppose to go to your dealer for your first oil change? usually they give out complimentary oil changes for the first visit... hmm.

I hope the link by AsianTL helps but my advise is when changing your oil, either do it yourself (if you know how) or get it done at the dealer. It costs me less than $30 for oil and filter change at the dealer which comparable or less than local shops (Midas, Jiffy Lube, etc..) so you don't have to deal with issues like this and have peace of mind.

The 1 means rotate tires, which seems kind of early with only 4,000 miles, but how long have you had the car? It may be based on time as well as miles.

Ron (and all)

Remember that, if you reset your MID with more than 15% showing on OIL LIFE, it will also reset the NEXT pending maintenance reminder which, in this case, is an A. That's when you have to hit the second RESET and hold for 10 seconds. It is saying that to remind you that you are zeroing out that as well and it assumes that you have done it. It then goes on to the next scheduled maintenance.

The envelope with the number 1 indicates you have one message pending.

Near all tire manufactures recommend tire rotations every 5K now.. All of my vehicles get a rotation at every oil change whether I do it or my tire shop... Besides, the tire shop recommends it as well and its free.
Rotating too much can never hurt - just ensures more consistent wear.

Cheers

Definitely a portion of the MID that needs more "logic".... One should be able to reset the oil change % without messing up the other reminders etc..
- My 04's issue for sure.. I have never seen anything other than the oil life on my MID in 25K+.. Then again it gets reset at each ~4800-5200 mile oil change / ~30-40% on the MID.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try hitting the second reset to see if this takes care of the problem..and no I wasn't offered a free first oil change with the car. I've been using my local Midas guy for many years now without problem.
