Oil Change

First off I know this question has been asked but I cannot get a definitive answer.

I have a 08 TL-S, that I have had for 6 months. I am just about to hit 3,000 miles. I am not sure if I should change the oil now or wait til 5,000 miles. If I wait for 5,000 I will only be changing once the oil every 11 months or so. Is this bad? If I waited til the oil life showed 0% I would have around 7,000 miles on the car and over a year with the same oil and filter. That just seems too long to me.

Does the car really have break-in oil? I have not been able to find much info on this. I called Acura and they could not give me an answer.

Thanks,
Mike

I also have a 08 TL-S and did my own oil change. Odo was around 7.5K at the time of changing the oil. I was just under 10% on the oil life. Went to synthetic, Mobile 1.

BTW, I was stationed in the Navy with a guy named Mike Henry. Would you be his son?

according to the book and the experts-
first oil change - the engine does contain a special NON detergent oil that allows metal to metal wear on the parts that need to mate up- should stay in till 6000 miles or more

Changing it at 3000 will not have allowed enough miles for the rings and such to seat properly
Then many go synthetic with an engine thats not tight yet- and get oil consumption problems

While its not great to go a year on an oil change- check the owner book under Severe Service- short trips etc- it may cut the interval in half~
the MID is a guide-- not the all knowing Oz
