Nsx Head on TL block? Wowzers!

So I stopped at my local shop today to adjust my camber. My mechanic there tells me I had just missed the coolest install the shop has ever done....

Nsx heads on our TL blocks!!!!!!!!

Buy or Sell?

sounds like poopy from the mouth. i was thinking about that a long time ago and a friend of mine whos got a performance shop in fl 2 weeks ago showed me the differencebetween NSX and the TL...... EVERYTHING......the block is different too. he had the motor stripped down for turbos on the NSX....so he pointed out whats different...but he didnt really have to because ive taken my motor apart to adjust the valves and there alone u can see nothing is the same.

I'm not familiar with the Acura motors. Why exactly couldn't you bolt a DOHC head to a block that originally came with a SOHC head? The block doesn't care what's on top. I'm sure there's a ton of fabbing and engine management to take care of but I don't see why it wouldn't physically bolt up. I took a tour of a shop that made SOHC heads for a SBC so it that's possible...

well one is the DOHC is too wide for the SOHC block. two theres two cam gears, three the bold pattern on the head of a NSX is totally diff from the Bolt patern on the head of a TL. Head gasket wont line up, cooland holes wont line up, intake manifold wont fit, exhaust manifold wont fit timing belt cover wont fit timing belt wont fit...need i go on?

here is how
stock 96-2000 civic = d16y motor... last digit is for vtec or non vtec

rip out the motor, trans and mounts

hasport mounts, b-series motor, tranny and put them all in

sohc to dohc

SOHC and DOHC is just the type of heads. There's no reason you couldn't interchange the types of heads assuming the bolt patterns are the same. Might not be possible in the TLs but I'm sure there are others where it's practically a bolt on.

You are correct sir. As long as the heads match up you can put DOHC heads on a SOCH block. I have seen it done on a few 4.6 Mustangs where people have wanted to have the DOHC motor.

^^

i dont buy it either... somebody probably fried the block, had to replace it with another J-series, and the guy felt like pulling your chain

you'd have an easier time putting a J35 or even a J37 in the TL, before you get a C block... the C series engine is a 90 degree DOHC block, while the J series is a 60 degree SOHC block... the crank shaft is smaller, the connecting rods are shorter thats a project for the masses... only Eric (ACCURATEin) would attempt something like that and he would probably do another J swap, instead of a C... they wont... its gonna stay hidden until its press release, which will be days/weeks before the car is released in october... so... maybe around august/september we will see it...

it would be funny if they didnt even change it this year, and made an 09 3G TL... we would all be putting our foot in our mouth

If the new design style in the RL & TSX dont pander out in sales, I wouldnt be suprised if they yank back the new TL and 'delay' it for a redesign. Thats what happened to the NSX...

I love this family!

Anyway when I was at the shop I called him out, told him I wanted to see the car, and he freaked! Hahaha

So my camber adjustment was done free!

I thought the 1G Integra BD16 head cylinder head would also fit on a Civic BD15 block and work. All the cooling, oil, bolts, cylinder bore, spacing all lined up since the BD16 was based on the BD15 block?

I totally hear ya.
That's why I've shyed from exhaust or CAI on our car.
But if I can come up with the 5k+ I will supercharge! lol
Torque steer blows though

i went to tampa for some NHRA races and a friend of mine said our cars are so easy to turbo its not even funny he said if i left the car with him for a few weeks it would be on more steroids than "AAnold" ever took.... for about the same price too. when I saw all the cars at his shop.......ranging from early 60's to cars nowadays dropping turbos..... I basically took his word for it..... the work spoke for itself. But like u said when the 5k appears is when you'll do it.

I would actually prefer turbo over charging for sure. I don't like to hear about people complaining about all the surging they are getting from them!

And that wastegate, OMG! Can't imagine how great that would sound!

"bd" wth is that

guess you are asking if a b16 head goes on a b15 head <-possible
guess you are asking if a d16 head goes on a d15 head <-possible

but I could think of better swaps aka ls-vtec (my pride and joy) b18 with b16 head built... putting down crazy whp and no torque
