Now or Wait?

I know there are threads on wanted features for the 06 TL, and that nobody has any clue about the 06, but I have to know what you guys think on waiting or not. I absolutly love the 05 TL and everything it has in it. I have the 06 TL in the back of my head, wondering about the features and if I would use them, and the added cost. So, should I wait for the 06 or get the 05? Planning on getting an 05 in the next few weeks if thats the desicion I make.

Get 05 now . . . Wait for 06

The 06 won't be out for 6 months, and nobody knows yet what the changes, if any, will be. You're the one who knows if he can wait that long or not (I couldn't), so it's really up to you.

Should I make this a poll?

I would just purchase it now...I don't think any change will be that "significant"...

For me, I couldn't wait to get my car...because of my impatience and picky-ness, I had it ordered from the factory

pre announcing 06

Acura does not want to kill sales on the 05 models by announcing an 06 too soon.

What if they decided to change platforms again or up the hp/add a 3.5 version to the product line... Announcing it too soon would have people waiting to buy and kill off sales on new and used cars.

Red face I seem to be the first one voting for '06...

If you have $$ and don't need a new car desperately, you could wait... maybe it's just me. If '06 does come with something new, the price will go up, and you prolly ask less discount than what you could get from '05 now... IMO.

Whether or not to wait partially depends on how much you need a new car now.

My bets for the '06 are the RL's XM traffic system, automatic adaptive cruise control, and turn signal mirrors.

I guess that settles it then. My car is on its last leg. 1996 Mazda 626 with a little over 130,000 miles on it. Almost everything on it is origional and hasn't been replaced, but recently its taken its toll. Fixed water pump last fall, and the origional exhaust is rusted. Many dings and scratches. many more things going wrong; leaks, ect

Probably go to the dealer within the next two months on a wekend when I have time to order a RRP/P auto w/navi.

Get the '05. The kinks have been worked out and the car is a blast to drive. I've had mine for a week.

There will be some changes/improvements every year. We are likely not going to see major changes until model year '08. Anything you read about next year Honda/Acura at this point is wishes/guesses only. Honda leaks very little information and not until just before it comes out unless something brand new like the Ridgeline.

Wait towards year end and see what they announce for 06 and make a decision. That way you might get a better discount on the 05 and it will have fewer miles on it when you go to trade it in for the 09 redesign... I say that since you do not want to buy the model year in 08

Gotta agree with mickey, if you can wait till the latter part of the year for the changes to be announced, you can then make an informed decision. You could still get an 05 and probably get a better discount or at that point, opt for an 06. Apparently from the description of your current ride, you would probably need one before then ...... Good Luck on your decision.

I agree on waiting for 06.

But, does it really matter how many miles you have on it when you trade it in in relation to which year model you have? I mean doesn't the Vin # tell you when the car was made?

So for example, I have an '04 with 8000 miles on it..not much for an '04...but when you look at the fact that I bought it in Oct. that is a lot of miles on it, no?

lol sure does matter how many miles you drive...! e.g., If I drive 20K a year and buy an 04 in november 04 I have 20K on the car in november 05. Or buy an 04 in november 03 by november 05 I have 40K on the car. You go to a dealer with a car that has 20k vs 40k on it and tell me what they offer for trade. same price ? And it does not matter if both cars were made on the same day or not. An 04 is an 04 when it comes time to trade...

You can call the dealer and order one over the phone. They can fax you a buyer's order and credit card authorization for the deposit. I would suggest this route since an ordered car may take 6-8 weeks to arrive. The sooner you order it the sooner you can be enjoying it! Trust me. It took 5 months for my '05 to arrive.

Is there any concrete date when the '06's will be released? I am in the same boat since I don't want to buy an '05 and then have the '06 have a decent overhaul like they did with the 2G TL. I think they made some nice improvements then and I wouldn't have wanted an earlier 2G TL over a later 2G TL.

I think it's a crap shoot on buy now or wait. New models roll in Oct/Dec usually. Honda/Acura does not pre-announce changes till the last minute. They generally manage inventory very well on the hot sellers (TL-TSX). If inventory on current year is low and prices are increasing, no great price saving deals. Dealer will say buy current @/near MSRP or pay the increase on the new one. Also, at the end of the year you will be buying a year old car regardless of the deal! There will be a new MDX which will get most attention and $$. Just enough changes on existing models to keep sales rolling. They have also taken a price increase already and cut out the 2.9% financing because business is good.

If the manufacturer is doing their JOB you should always want next year model instead of this!

I would agree

This is true which means if there are any models left over, you might not get a great selection, but you would get a better price...

Like the 05 G... They bumped up the power in those models and improved the interior... So some people waited for the 05 and even if they could get an extra k or 2 off the 04, they wanted the additional power and features in the 05..

I would wait, maybe the 2006 TL will have some new features or improvement over 04/05 models. It's true that they might not, but if they do u will kick yourself for not waiting.

I'd wait and see the changes on the 06. The new competition is coming out (new 3 series and new IS300 (IS250, IS350?) and Acura may respond with better/more features. I'd also check out these two competitors because you may change your mind. Good luck.

Dude, you should WAIT. The new 06 is suppose to have 310HP AWD, better suspension, rear view camera standard as well as the capacity to do zero to 60 in under 5 seconds. It has a constant connection to the internet to allow you to play games directly on the front NAVI screen as you drive. Supposedly, simply sitting in one is rumored to have the ability to increase you income 10-fold. Kwel huh?

Just buy now. Features are totally speculative at this point, so unless you want to wait six more months, just buy now.

I'm faced with a similar dilemma with DLP projection TVs. Buy the current HD3 chip Samsung model with the features I want now, or wait for the potential xHD3 chip Samsung with the potential for 1080p (not i) resolution.......I bought now because the new features aren't guaranteed, and the price for the current model is compellingly low.

HUD - hmm, I am in the same dillemma, I might wait for that as well. I have it on my current Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, it is an excellent feature to have. How sure are you that the 2006 will have the HUD ability?

Ahh, you suck Mickey, but HUD would be a good idea. When cops pull me over and ask me if I know how fast I was going, I have no excuse
