Now, this was a surprise!

... and it wasn't pleasant!

I accidently left my map lights on in my TL last night.

I sure wasn't expecting to see them on when I got in my car this morning! Even my 8 year-old cheapo Explorer would turn the interior lights off after 30 minutes or so.

That's a potential battery drainer ...

Welcome to a Honda/Acura, where its features are only as smart as those who drive them

Now GotJazz, you should know from those few people that have had problems with their cars not starting due to dead batteries that Acura recommends pulling the battery out every night when you get home and putting it back in when you leave in the morning.....see, follow the Acura Tech's advice and this won't happen again.

Yes honda has for some mysterious reason never put over ride features on their interior lights. On our car its not bad on my Ody theres a total of 6 lights!

For some reason, Acura does not believe in that feature. I had it in cars back to the earliy 90's. They may lead in tech world in some items, but in basics they are lagging

Come on people, pay attention to what you are doing in your cars and this wouldn't be an issue...luckily it would probably take at least a full 24-48 hours to truly impact the battery if only maplights are left on

As long as you remember to leave your solar powered trickle charger plugged in and attached to the windshield... no prob.

Although, it brings up a good question... is it still called a map light if you have Navigation?

There are override features on the TL interior lights. When they're activated implicitly by the doors, they turn off after some period of time - if the doors are left open.

They won't turn off when you explicitly turn them on by activating the light switch.

So to clarify... "interior lights" not "map lights" on a Navi and "map lights" not "interior lights" on a Non-Navi?

Pheew! I was getting confused there for a while, but I'm okay now.

In my case, I foolishly did this twice overnight in Nov. My battery was still live afterwards.

Leaving my lights on ... I guess that's what I get for showing off my TL to a friend ending around midnight.

I wonder if Acura is using LED lights for the interior lights (BlackSunshine - I have a Navi). I remember a long time ago when I left my map light on, the battery was drained the next morning. LED lights have a lower current draw.

I once left a map light on overnight in my '01 CL. It was maybe 12 hours. The engine turned over without the slightest hesitation, so it didn't seem that the light had drained much of the battery yet. I guess one of these lights could be left on for a couple of days before causing a problem. Maybe Acura thinks that it is a rare enough situation not to warrant the cost of adding automatic-off circuitry. Every few dollars matters to these manufacturers these days.

Tell it to my wife! BTW the car has started even after leaving them on!
