My Amsoil dealer claims that the GM MTF with friction mod., you know the one that is supposed to fix the 3rd gear issue? He told me that GM buys it right from the warehouse in Superior Wisc.! Yes, It's AMSOIL'S MTF!!! Now that would explain alot!! Now for the fun part. ![](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif)
What do you think of that??

Ask him for a copy of a purchase order from GM as an example/proof of such purchase. Otherwise, it sounds like marketing puffery to me.

I've heard it a lot of oil rumors; including that Amsoil gets their oil from Mobil 1. I could see GM buying their MTF from Amsoil because they make a great product. Why re-create the wheel?? I find it hard to believe that Amsoil wouldn't want any recognition from this "great" product though.

No computer anything. All I did was change the oil. To Amsoil. I took a handheld tac/dwell meter, did a before and after. The after was about 280 rpm more at idle. That was enough for me I have used it in all my motors since. Not always Amsoil, but always synth. Just thought I would give you some nostalgia.![](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif)

I'd believe it... If you go to a GM parts department, and get "GM Fuel System Treatment Plus", it doesn't recognize any third party companies on the label. But it's a rebadged Chevron w/Techron fuel system cleaner.
GM Radiator conditioner chips are also made by Bardahl, which sells the same thing as "Stop Leak and Radiator conditioner" chips.
AC/Delco oil filters were also made by the same company that makes Mobil-1 filters (Champion Labs). The Ultragaurd Gold series of AC/Delco filters were found to be nearly identicle to the Mobil-1 filter, IIRC.

I agree it’s not hard to believe really. Like Stillhere said GM's not in the business of refining their own petroleum/oil so they have to get it from somewhere. Now from which company does GM get their MTF from is yet to be confirmed.
Either way I'm sticking with GM MTF. From what I've read on AZ there is no doubt this stuff is the real deal and works. Can't wait to get this fulid in my 6MT

The DVD-A Script Guy
Maybe it's the same, maybe it isn't. Maybe Amsoil makes it to GM Spec and puts it in the GM branded bottle. Not to be rude but who really cares. 3 qts of the GM stuff are under $30 at the GM dealer and the drain/refill is about 30minutes of my time. For me, a refill is enough for two years of driving. What am I going to save....15 bucks at the most spread over 2 years? The difference with the GM in the gears is priceless. I'd happily pay even more it I had to.
So if/when hard evidence appears then I'm all ears. For now I can't be bothered. Sorry.

I think it is less of who's factory makes it, but rather, who's design and formulation it is. Just like oil filers - most filters (notable brand names or not) sold in the US are made by one company.
