Normally I'm on the gas hard and my mpg shows it as I'm typically around 25-26 mpg average every tank and that's with 75% of my driving on the highway. This tank I told my self I'll accelerate slowly and once I get on the highway I'll set cruise at 60. This is how I've done so far after 3 days of driving to work and back.

I don't have to drive in the city for at least 2 more days so I'm going to see if 500 miles on a tank is possible. If I'm at or around 250 thru half a tank then I think I have a shot

For 300 miles of driving the difference in mileage saves you about $11. I tried the same thing with my old Camaro Z28 when I lived in Hawaii and went from about 12-13mpg with all city driving to about 17mpg. After two tanks I realize that if I wanted to drive at Honda Civic speeds I would have bought a Civic. Every lead footed romp through the gears is like going to Disney World for me. $11 every week or two is less than the cost of a movie with soda, I get a lot more entertainment value from my cars than I do movies. To each their own, though. Btw, I averaged 25 mpg over several tanks driving across Montana at 90mph. I was pretty happy with that.

your 32 mpg is somewhat impressive if you traveled more than 1000 miles. Here is mine and i tend to floor it onto the Highway just cause its funnnnn!

It's the city idle time and what you do at Stop Lights that make the big difference in your MPG based on my experience.
Once you're on the freeway the difference is not as great. I got 32mpg for 400 miles going 80 and through LA traffic on a trip fully loaded with the A/C on. The TL is a great cruising car with decent aerodynamics and high gearing with the AT- the mileage difference b/n 60 & 70 on a flat road is not that huge. Perhaps I could have gotten 35mpg if I went 70mph on my trip instead, but it would have cost me an extra 45 minutes time. As they say, time is money.

Driving like an old lady wont save you a significant amount of money when its all said and done. it wouyld be the difference of not going out to a fancy dinner a couple times in a year!!
Also, dont believe everything the MID is telling you as I think they are somewhat off as are most cars MPG figures. Do the math yourself to get the real numbers.

I tried this a few times...but I either loose interest in the experiment or find a nice on-ramp.

32? How the ..I do mostly city driving ..but the majority of my work commute there are less than 5 traffic lights within 7 miles. How the hell do you guys get 25+ ??? My meter is stuck on 21 or 20 ..and my MPH stays at 23-24 lol..is my meter broken?

That would be almost impossible in Houston considering there could be traffic any time of the day causing you to completely stop sometimes. Wish I could cruise control even for 2 minutes.

I get 14 MPG.
I'm really pissed, because I drive slow as hell.
I never accelerate more than 3000 RPMs.
I slow down super early.
WTF is going on? =(

I reset my trip data and just drove aggressively. Hit 100MPH and drove the car hard. Now my MPG is 28. Highest I have ever seen. I think something is wrong with my meter. Driving aggressively should decrease the MPG not increase it.

For 110K miles, my car seems to be doing pretty well. I'm a college student and don't have streets around here over 45mph so I believe my avg. mph is usually 28-35. I still see around 22-26mpg on a tank. On the way back from Texas, I averaged 36mpg. Not too shabby and a helluva lot better than my previous 5.4L F150 that got 12 around town haha.

Trying to increase your MPG is addicting, at least imo. I always glance to see if it increased by 1.
I got this on the way back home (i reset after every fill):
In the end it was 31.7 (calculated at the pump. showed up as 32 on the MID) These TLs are really good for highway driving. you gotta be careful when you're accelerating on the street, since that can ruin a good score haha. But it can be fixed by long hwy driving.

^ Exactly. Those people complaining about low mileage need to show their MID average MPH numbers in addition to MPG claims they always give- I guarantee you'll see a low number for MPH. If you have < 30mph, your mileage will be low.
Rx for low MPG: You can always boost your mileage going on an extra highway joyride of 10 miles up and back 3 times/week for those with a city commute, but you'll be burning more gas getting this higher MPG but at least you'll know your car is good and your MID computer is even better.
