Noob Question: What is Torque Steering?

I read somewhere that since Acura TL is a front-wheel drive, you will notice torque steering or something......

Torque steer is the "tugging" at the wheel that occurs in FWD cars with uneven traction. This is because the steering and driving wheels are the same.

At a full throttle start on uneven pavement, there will be some tugging at the wheel because the left or right tire has better traction. Even-length halfshafts and traction control fix this.

Also on sharp corners, when you gun the throttle again you'll feel a tug.

On the TL it is minor compared to other powerful FWD cars, such as the Maxima or Pontiac Grand Prix.

Ken is right.

-------------------------
TORQUE STEER
Definition: The annoying tendency of some front-wheel drive vehicles to pull to one side when engine torque is applied. In other words, you step on the gas and the car wants to steer right or left.

If you do a search on "torque-steer" you can read the varied opinions on the TL's supposed torque steer as well as the extent of the "problem".

Well, it's almost right, but there is a bit more to it. If you noticed, a torque steer is always either to right or to left, depending on the car (model, manufacturer). That has a direct connection with the length and the strength of the halfshaftes. Even if both front tires will have equal grip, your car will experience thorque steer if it doesn't have perfectly equal halfshafts in their ability to handle torque from engine. If one shaft twists (winds up) more under torque than the other, the first shaft will "unwind" as soon as your car starts moving creating torquesteer.
I'm not sure if I was able to explain it so you understand correctly, but...

You can blame straight-line torque steer on half-shafts, but other factors come into play during turns. This guy gives the best explanation I've seen. Excellent article:
