Noob looking for some advice on a 3rd Gen

Well I'm about to purchase a 3rd gen TL. I just have a couple quick questions if someone can help me with some answers. Its mostly interior related...

I'm bouncing around between a normal TL and a Type-S, I've been trying to find a black on black (real black not that 'grey' in the 04/05's) and I seem to find it in the 06/07 models... but when it comes to the Type S models, its a 2 tone? Is this ALWAYS going to happen with Type-S models? Do they not have the option of the all black interior like the base TL's?

Packages, I've been browsing on multiple classifieds for a few weeks now, and I keep seeing a list of different packages offered for TL's. From "performance package", to A-spec... My question is what are the official packages and whats the difference's in them? I searched and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Also when it comes to the 04/05's are the auto tranny's really that "bad"? I seen a few people saying they need them rebuilt before 100k etc. Does the 06-08 cure this issue? What issues will I run into on the 06-08 models? I know I've seen the "pinging" gas thread dealing with TL-S's is that all?

Thanks in advance

All 07-08 Type S models will have a 2 tone interior. Ebony/Silver or Taupe/Ebony (seats all taupe, carpet and door stitching black)

As far as packages come for the Type S, the only options you have are summer tires and aspec kit.

If you get an A/T you will settle for a lesser Type S.

Get a 6 MT.

Well I know it would be nice to have a 6MT but this is just a daily for me, I use it for sales calls etc and racking up 50k a year in mileage I'd rather keep it just as a auto. When I want to jump into something fun and fast I have different cars for that.

I just want to confirm, all 07/08 S's come standard with brembos correct? What issues should I watch out for with common problems? I know to check the bluetooth as soon as I get to the lot

I disagree ;-) The only thing your getting with the manual Type S is a tranny and clutch that are a pain to finnesse. I got rid of my manual TL's and am back in the auto. For daily driving the manual in the TL's is too sensitive and difficult to get right. IMO ofcourse!

And to the OP yes all Type S TL's come with Brembo brakes. Also, the Ebony/Silver interior is almost all black. The center section of the seats is a very dark and even the headliner is pitch black unline the Taupe interior. it looks very nice trust me! Regardless if your gonna get the Type S or base model, make sure you look for 07 or 08 models only. The earlier ones are good, but there are too many updates and changes to the 07 and 08 models that really make them worth it. Things like refreshed interior with much improved instrument cluster, front bumper with fog lights, new mirrors with LED's, aux input, back up camera, things like that. Either way you cant go wrong with any of them, but its something to keep in mind when looking. Sounds to me like an auto Type S is the way to go

Agree with all of that but the auto part. I am not knocking auto's as everyone has a preference. Mine is manual.

If you do get the auto version. Look into the 3x3 drain/refill and pressure sensors. Otherwise you should be good to go.

You can't lose with an S either way, and the 07/08 base are a touch better I believe.

No matter what if you get a 3g TL you are going to be happy with your purchase, especially if putting alot of miles on it.

I would prefer a manual, but with the mileage I'm going to putting on this car in 2 years, Its not something I want to deal with. I HOPE to get semi decent mileage out of this car.. Its going to suck being stuck on 93 octane all the time. Does anyone have a tune for E85 maybe?

I also think I have found the car.. going with white on black with a A spec kit a friends out of state dealership just got it in on trade in... time to scoop it up after the holidays

How often do the sensors go bad in the tranny? easy to change? I'm familiar with a 3x flush, what fluid is best for these trannys? castrol import?honda Z1? honda's new formula (name escapes me right now)

don't settle for less get a Type S. I have Taupe interior and didn't like it in the beginning but now to find out that it make my interior look more luxury than sporty found on Ebony/Silver. Either one you are good with the Type S.
