non-replacement windshield repair

What has been the success rate of non-replacement repair of 3G windshield glass?

I got a ~0.5" "birdseye" crack after a rock came up on I95 in Baltimore. I have USAA and they use SafeLite for their repair. A non-replacement repair is free and a replacement windshield is $250 (for OEM glass). Personally I prefer the repair if possible, I've not had great luck in many cars in getting the windshield glass installed properly and leak-proof.

I also have USAA and used a Safelite shop. They fixed the crack fine. It was a pretty good starburst. You can still see the mark, but the guy said the crack shouldn't spread. Like you said, the repair is free, which is the best part.
