Thought you were allowed to remove the plates if the car is not moving

I had that happen to me as well, but in front of my house. And if it is a fix it, you have to put your plates on and get it signed off. I just keep my front plate on now cause it's not worth the hassle.

Each State has its own laws. Its plate required, OR no front plate required
If your car is on a public road or public parking lot, or private parking lot with owners permission, they can enforce any law they deem fit to.
Its the Captain and his staff that decide which of the more than 2500 possible vehicle code violations they are going to look at on any particular day.
Plates are a big deal because stolen cars and/or stolen plates are removed and displayed in the windows or not at all. Makes it easy to switch identity!

Perhaps someone has stolen your plate and plans to do a crime with it, maybe you didnt know it was gone- and if so - now you can report it~ how nice of the officer to leave you a note!
You probably have tints and a sweet looking ride, the type someone might steal.

Put the plate on- look at the ticket and the one you get in the mail to see if its a fix it/sign off or fix it and pay. There is no such thing as pay and not fix it, and guess what is in their computer next time they run that car- oh-we see here you were told about this before.

Whadda ya think partner- cavity search or dog sniffer fer this lawbreakerr?

I once got a ticket by SD police for not displaying my annual Texas registration sticker (goes on the windshield) because I had TX plates at the time. Who would've known SD police would be looking for it?

Okay, I'm a city cop and we normally will not enforce parking statutes in a school lot...it's considered private property. You might want to check the agency that issued the cite. Either way, you take the risk if you don't have the plate. Personally I think the car looks better without it, and I would be hard pressed to cite someone for that...unless they were being a total "sidewalk lawyer" or Class A jerk...then standby. If you put your quarter in the machine, you go for the full ride.

I'm guessing your campus police or parking people wrote you...revenue source that you are to them. If it was a city cop, check and see if they normally enforce on private property. If not, fight it! If they do, pay it...and put the plate back on. Good luck!

For what its worth, I love people who hate the Five-oh...makes my day go by faster!

the "five oh" as you so childishly put it is doing their job.

You took the risk by taken it off. As do I everyday. If I get a ticket, shame on me...

Whatever, they are doing their job, but it's still an absolutely useless and stupid law. I even politely asked police officers here in LA what was the basis or reasoning for it and the two officers I spoke with had the audacity to say it was to sucker more money out of citizens.....I kid you not...

you forgot:

red light cameras (according to a study they actually INCREASE the chances of getting into an accident in that indersection )
any kind of parking tickets
burnouts or peelouts
excessive damage to your car
limited tints

these are all unnecessary laws used for one purpose - jacking money away from citizens.

If they really cared, heres what they can do. First time offense: warning and get it fixed if possible. Second time offense: ticket - and so on.

I got a no front plate ticket when I used to live in Los Angeles, and parked on the street in J-Town. It was issued by one of the meter maids. When I saw the ticket on the windshield, I thought it was a parking ticket, but I still had time left... Then when I looked closer at it, it was a no-front-plate ticket

I got a windows tint ticket about 5 years ago. It was around a 60 fine. I paid it via the mail and NEVER removed the tint. Sold the car WITH the tint. My fronts were not that dark and only ever once did I get a ticket for it. I was going through a road block and spaced it. I usually roll them down when tinted. I would pay it and ignore it once. IF you get ANOTHER ticket then they are targeting you and you might as well just fix it.

Texas plates but no required sticker- that mismatch says stolen car/plates to the cops
Plates on the dash-what do you think they are going to think,
who are you? 007 with the flipover plates?
Dark Tints on the driver window- expect their hand to be on the gun for their safety

Red light cameras increase accidents because driver #1 was speeding and the next guy was tailgating and speeding when #1 tried to stop.
Get off the phone and drive!~!!!

In that study (U of Miami, I think), they found an increase in rear end collisionsions from dumb asses following too close when people would suddenly slow down for a yellow light. Flawed analysis. Many other studies say otherwise.

Accidents increased at red lights due to yellow light times being SHORTENED at camera intersections to INCREASE violations, and therefore revenue generation.

These cameras are being removed all over the country, and will be a thing of the past as more angry motorists fight these and courts are dismissing them.

Your answer is quite ignorant. I will be the first to say if I see anyone doing anything that you have mentioned they will be recieiving a ticket. Burnouts or peelouts are quite unnecessary and can cause quite the damage. Think about it if you are a unexperienced driver the amount of things you can do behind a vehicle is endless. The amount of accidents I have seen resulting in someone being careless while driving from doing burnouts and peelouts are not necessary at all. Excessive tint is another thing that is not needed.

There is no real reason to have extremely dark tint unless you seriously have a medical problem with light and in that case you should not be behind a steering wheel if you eye sight is limited and can cause numerous different types of accidents. I understand that tint is a cosmetic thing and makes a vehicle more appealing. But the numerous amounts of police officers that have been shot approaching a vehicle with dark tint because they could not see the driver, passanger, etc while in the vehicle. Especially having dark tint on a vehicle also obstructs vision especially at night, hell I had a young guy take out a curb the other night because of his restricted dark tint he could not see the curb and hitt a car. Pure careless that could of been prevented.

There are many different police agenices that inforce certain laws harsher than others but you have to keep in mind they are only trying to protect themselves and assure that other accidents that could of been prevented are prevented. I truly hope this makes things from anothers point of view alittle better to understand. It is important that you understand we are out there to prevent accidents, and to save lives not make peoples live's more difficult.

Fight it and bring to court a current pic with the plate on, the judge will dismiss it... Make up some story of why it was off that day....

I personally do not understand the whole getting mad at a cop shit. If you do something to break the law, how can you bitch about it after you get caught? I can see if you had a plate on, someone stole it, and then you bitched. But you are just mad because he got you somewhere that you thought was safe. That's the breaks playa...

I don't sport my plate, but I don't say fuck the cops either. It's Russian Roulette when you do that shit. C'mon dawg, you know that. The only real law amongst non-platers is just that you may have to "pay to play" in order to look good. Still think it's worth it?

I'd like to see your sources for these statements.

In my area, I see new cameras appearing all the time.
The length of the yellow is based on the speed limit of the street.

Which is the whole point. All of these equipment violations are NOT evenly enforced. They only enforce it when they feel like it. I see plenty of cars around here with tints (dark or otherwise). Plenty of cars with no front plates. And even some with stuff hanging down from the mirror.

If it was a really serious infraction everyone would get tickets and either have to fix it or goto jail. Most of these are enforced only when they feel like it and are NOT that serious an infraction.

On my car the fronts were much lighter then the backs. I get that a cop approaching my car at night might not be able to see in and be concerned for his or her life. I get that. But, is it really that much safer if my back 3 windows are blacked out (last I heard totally legal in NY)?

If they decided NO tints at all AND enforced that would make sense to me. I was not pissed at the cop. I was pissed at myself. The road block was near a place they wanted to keep safe from terrorists. But, while they were there checking people out I am sure their co said write people up for equipment violations, seat belts, inspection and registration too.

My fault. I paid the 60 and kept my tints. Nothing ever came of it. Now if I got another ticket a week or two later I would have paid that and removed the tint.

Where do I begin? In California it IS illegal to have something hanging from your rearview mirror. The vehicle code is full of laws, rules, regulations, and what not. Every good cop knows the "VC is PC"... meaning the vehicle code is probable cause.

If we want to stop you, give us a minute or two, we probably can find something that is in violation or appears to be in violation of some vehicle code section. I know that sucks when you are not a cop, but it is what it is. Trust me, you have way more protections than not, but I do understand car lovers and their hate affair with the police.

I still haven't read who wrote this ticket, was it campus police, parking enforcement, or city police or sheriff?

As for me being a "bible thumper"...guilty. I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, cheat on my wife, or abuse my authority as a police officer. What the problem is?

I do love cars and I definitely love mine. I have yet to cite a TL driver, though I have stopped a few. I do not sport my front plate, my front windows are tinted, and occasionally I drive above the posted speed limit. I am also honest to a fault sometimes.

In other words, I am a human being just like most of you (smile)... I breathe the same air and bleed the same blood. I just happen to get paid to strap on a vest, a bunch of "tools of the trade", and go out everyday and keep as many people safe as I can. Who would you rather have doing that? Someone with no morals, ethics, or values?

As for "needless laws'...well, I don't make 'em, I just enforce 'em. If we only had three or four, somebody would still break them and then complain about it, so what are you going to do? There is a reason for them, you may not like it, but it might not be about YOU...think about that. I do not exist to spoil your fun, but if you put others at risk, then it is my job to address it. Unfortunately for you, it is my judgment as to when you cross that line.
