I think any private inspection station will pass you. You have to pay $75 to get the car inspected. I think that's how much it is???? If you take it to the state inspection station, they will probably fail you, unless you have a moron who doesn't notice the tint.

I have an 04, but moved here/back from cali... my cali registration runs out in june 05, so, figure i would just do everything under nj...

so basically any one (i.e. any gas station or whatever) should work? I mean, my tints are only 50%, so, it's not like I'm asking for them to pass me on limo tint...

is it kosher to call and ask them "will you pass me with tint?" or is that not the correct way to handle it? I assume officially (esp. over the phone) they will have to say "no".

There are no tint friendly Nj inspections. I went to so many, including my local South Brunswick one and they failed me for the RSX. I had to to a local gas station and pay 50 bucks for the guy to pass me..Exxon on Livingston Ave in New Brunswick, but that was like 2 years back...

I had HIDs in my RSX and they faile dme for that because they knew that my car wasn't equipped with them (OEM) so they failed me, even thought they were the exact pair Mercedes uses..

I failed for my tints about two years back. They were only like 50% on the front windows. I did get it to pass once prior. I kept the windows down as it was hot out. Guess it was luck the first time..

I think most private inspection stations, not state, will pass you with tints. The only thing they can't get around is the emmission testing.

I remember the first time I had my car inspected when I had just started to drive, I went to the local gas station that did all our repairs etc. I must have had bad emissions numbers cause without hesitation, the guy pulls his truck up next to my car - slides the pipe thing outta mine and into his - runs the test, passes and slaps the sticker on my car - sweet! Course all of our children's children won't be able to go outside without protective sun suits on, but at the time it seemed like an OK thing to do
