I wrote to nextel also. They said the same thing. And I also asked some people here about the Jabra wireless system. No one has confirmed that it will work or not.
The only benefit that I have is a Sony Ericsson T68i that I bought a few years ago w/ At&t. I have sonce changed to Nextel, but found a guy who can unlock the phone to work on Nextel's cell phone service. Granted I won't have the 2 way feature, but I figure if I leave the T68i in the center console and just use it when I'm in the car then it will be convenient enough for me.
I think everyone who has a nextel here should write to them and ask that they encorporate bluetooth into one of their newer phones.

Nextel doesn't design or manufacture the phones - Motorola does. Nextel pays (subsidizes) new phones costs and that makes profit difficult since they need to keep the new subscribers at least long enough to cover the subsidy on the phone.
What this means is that phone cost is very important to Nextel. Adding Bluetooth capability will increase the cost of the phone and the amount of the subsidy that Nextel pays when adding new subscribers.
Nextel doesn't have a second source for phones (i.e. there is no competition), and doesn't have the volumes necessary to allow Motorola to drive down the cost of their phones to the CDMA or GSM levels.
Also, other than the iDEN phones that Motorola manufactures for Nextel, no other phones will work on the Nextel network. There are several important issues that cause this difference. Nextel phones operate on a different frequency band (the "SMR" band), they use a different and proprietary air interface that no one else uses (it supports the "direct connect" dispatch feature, the packet data service). etc.

I talked to a Nextell dealer and he stated that because Nokia has a patton on the bluetooth technology, Nextell will not have any bluetooth phones because they will not carry any Nokia phones. Just my input

Well you know how everyone has their stories to tell. I guess the guy was really trying to blow me off. You know the kind of people, when you walk into the store and they are paying more attention to the computer screen then they are answering your question. I didnt know if he was talking to me or the computer.
